Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather

I am used to my savage 10fcp rifle with the HS precision stock so one of the main reasons I like the model 70 extreme weather SS is it's meaty feeling stock so this is music to my ears. The only change I would consider is ditching the soft recoil pad for something fairly hard. I have seen my bosses model 70 with the pachmyer recoil pad and he has used the rifle pretty rough and beat up the recoil pad pretty good. On a side note he really likes the look of the extreme weather stock and might be interested in purchasing yours if you do decide to sell it. PM me anytime you may want to relieve yourself of it to help fund a replacement and I can ask him if he is interested.
 
I like the stock other than that. I'm shooting it somemore once the sun comes up and we'll see how it goes.
 
Here's a test: heat up a piece of metal and poke it into or on the bedding. If it melts, its hot glue. If it hardens and cracks, its really bad epoxy. I highly doubt FN has a glue gun station on the line. My bet is its really cheap epoxy.

I'm also wondering what difference the EW would have made. Does the M70 EW stainless steel have built in heaters or something? Water freezes fairly consistantly at zero celsius, what temperature does it freeze on a M70 EW?

It would appear that Winchester has marketed a rifle for the dudes who are afraid to take their blued/lumber rifle out in the rain or snow. My mistaken belief that "Extreme Weather" actually refered to: extreme weather(or at least weather that is signifcantly harder to hunt) could be equaited to guys who buy trucks with stickers that say "Off Road" the box and belief they have an Off Road vehicle.

I already knew that, just checking to see if you did... don't worry, it happens to everybody. Big companies spend big $$ lying to us. People go to university to study ways to effectively mislead us. It's called marketing, or advertising.
 
For the money, a guy would be better off with 2 previously owned Husqvarna 30-06 imports. Much better off, especially if you like bedding.

A set of Leupold DD low mounts and a fixed 6X Leupold would make this a go anywhere do anything lifetime rifle. For the budget conscious shopper, this as a single big game rifle in the safe amortized over 25 years of hunting would be nothing short of a bargain.
