What's your take on the Model 70 Featherweight barrel profile in context of all the other profiles out there for general purpose bush and hunting, range practice? Too light? Too heavy? Just right? I get the impression it fits somewhere between mountain rifle and standard sporter. So is the Featherweight barrel profile a great all-rounder?

My vote would be "just right". I have a featherweight in .243. A nicely balanced rifle that shoots well and is accurate. If you what to see a thin contour barrel take a look at a Kimber. The Kimbers are to thin in my opinion, but the rifle is very light to carry.

Thanks. Any thoughts for the .30-06 in the Featherweight barrel contour?

Mine is an older model 70 but still push-feed. Barrel has been cut down to 19" and recrowned. It's not my favourite for working up loads as the thin barrel still warms quickly and the groups start to open up. As far as in the field performance it's very well balanced and the first shot is a good one if I do my part.

I like the weight of the rifle overall althought at times I wish that the profile of my 30-06 Featherwieght was just a little heavier for accuracy as it is not a sub MOA barrel as on their other rifles.
