My daughter has a Winchester model 70 mini carbine in .243 that I bought off a guy I worked with about three years ago.My question is at what time were these rifles in production.He said he bought it new in the mid 80's used it for a couple years bought a Remington BDL .270 and kind of kept it locked up in his gun cabinet and only used it when the snow was too deep and he wanted a lighter rifle to carry around.Anyways the thing was damn near minty when I bought it off him super smooth bolt,came with a tasco 3x9x40 world class scope,bases,rings and sling.It has a 20" barrel and a 12.5" lop.Any information you can provide me about this rifle would be great as I have searched the internet many times with no luck. Thanks guys.
 
Sounds like it might be a Model 70 Classic Compact - 12-1/2" LOP & 20" light contour Bbl. in either .243, 7mm-08 or .308. If it's a controlled round feed
( pre '64 claw type extractor), checkered walnut & blued steel, I would think maybe late '90's rather than mid-80's. Otherwise it may be a "Lightweight Carbine" with a shortened stock ( about the only other Mod. 70 with a 20" bbl. - it would be a push feed gun if a LW Carbine, however - mfg. '84-'87.

The Winchester is the middle of the three guns,sorry that is the only picture I have of the gun.

My son shot one for a while, now been sold on here a few times since. That one os a lightweight carbine 84-87. His didn't have the shorter LOP.
 
I have a winchester model 70 carbine in 270,has no sights 13in lop,have seen in books called compact.
checked serial number G168###x made around 85-86
