I have a lefty A-bolt Medallion 270WSM on order since May 2008 and getting a little impatient but I did put $200.00 down. Been told it won't be in until 2010. Have the opportunity to purchase a NEW lefty Winchester Model 70 Classic Sporter 3 in 270WSM for a very good price since it is old stock. Never handled a lefty Model 70 (only one I handled was a 20 year old r.h. a hunting buddy has) and since this is not a local gun I don't have the opportunity too. Just looking for some feedback on the gun and also comparisons to A-bolt (I already have a Browning and I like it very much). Also what would be a good purchase price.

Just me, but, I'd take a M70 over an A-Bolt anyday...

Any LH Model 70s are very old stock, you should be able to wheel and deal a little.

I'd get the Winchester as well, but not before grtting a guarantee that it worked properly.
I have seen a brand new mod 70 with a safety that did not work and have heard that occasionally people have had problems with WSM cartriges not feeding properly in
mod 70 rifles.

The WSM LH model 70's are the most prolific of the lefty Winchesters. At least when it comes to being available on a shelf somewhere. At one time they wouldn't have been my first choice. I'm not so sure anymore. I have a bit of a connection with a few lefty's both here and in the USA and know of a couple that have had really good luck with them. One of them isn't even much of a WSM fan. If it feeds I'd get it and worry about the rest, ie safety, later. See if you can come up with a few dummies and give it a whirl.

Oh, and I'd leave that Browning where it is regardless.

Got the order date wrong. A-bolt on order since May 2008...but put $200.00 down on it.

Ask for a return of the deposit for a no-show. You should not be expected to wait for 2 years...If they won't budge, post the store name here, so we all know who NOT to deal with anymore...

At the very least, take a store credit, that you can use for a scope or ammo, etc...

I absolutely love my A-Bolt. it's been my go-to hunting rifle since 1993.

I'd still buy the Model 70. You'll be just as happy. Provided detach mag and tang safety are not big features for you, that is. I have owned just one model 70 and I kick myself daily for selling it.

X2, nothing against the A-Bolt, but I would'nt pass on a good deal on a M70. In fact, I bought the 2008 limited edition Featherweight, in 300 WSM, because you were getting the Deluxe model for the price of the regular one.
