Hi all,
What is the ballpark value of a Winchester model 70 super grade in .300 win mag, nice wood with iron sites and about 10 years old.

Control round feed will command a bit better price than a push feed. But I would say 6 to 7 hundred. A new Alaskan is now 14 hundred plus taxes due to the exchange on the US dollar pushing prices up, so you may due better.

As Dogleg mentioned the large extractor is tell tale factor from a push feed which has one or two small spring loaded pins and a small claw on the bolt head. Being a Super Grade it should be so marked on the floor plate, plus an ebony (black plastic) fore end tip mounted on a really decent piece of wood. Some Super Grade's can have exceptionally nice wood, hence c-fbmi asking for pictures.

Don't despair if it is not a CRF as there is nothing wrong with a push feed M-70. They are a strong accurate action. But there is an arguable opinion amongst the gun crowd that CRF is better, so it commands a better dollar.

I don't think they have made a supergrade in a pushfeed for more than 20 years, I bought a 300 WM supergrade almost 20 years ago and it was a CRF with the new introduction of the Mod 70 SG. And yes the wood on a SG can range from fair to absolutely outstanding and asking prices inflate accordingly.

Was one of my favorites,

until I 'gave' it to a buddy when I chose to replace it with a Schultz & Larsen in a close comparable calibre, the 308 Notma Magnum.

John Peterson, that is one outstanding looking rifle. I have been thinking of picking one up, how is the action? Accuracy? ...

The good old days of pressed checkering and white line spacers. The only thing missing is someone in bell bottom pants with long hair and sideburns standing on shag carpet listening to the Beatles White Album.

While my favorite bolt action is the Schultz & Larsen, the model 70 comes in at a very close second. That rifle pictured accounted for three Moose before I gave it too my buddy. Accuracy, three shot groups with handloads would stay within an inch ;)when I did my part:).

Ok cool thanks guys
Is there a visual difference in controlled round feed?

No disrespect was meant towards Mr.Peterson's rifle which is a beautiful rifle as it has all the style attributes of that period of time. As such so are the items I referred to in my post, which I suspect Mr. Hunter you are far to young to relate to.

You think wrong... Born early enough to remember the early seventies. I had a mop top, bell bottoms and walked a few miles on shag carpet while enjoying the Beatles. Sideburns, not so much. In my mind I was thinking you were the young one disrespecting classic lines and wood. I know far too many hunters that give up on fine rifles to acquire a synthetic (plastic) stock and stainless steel action/barrel to be topped by silver color scope. I do like many of the modern rifles, just not for me. Wood or laminate wood on all but one of my firearms. Only exception is a 10/22. I will not knowingly disrespect someones choice in firearms, they spent money to get them. Their choice may sometimes be swayed by others, but in the end thay make a choice and will find out sooner or later if it was the right one.

I take full responsibility in misreading your post as disrespect to the pictured rifle. I apologize if I appeared to be a snotty 20 ish. it's all good ...

Mr. Peterson, I have to become your friend so you can give me one too :). Beauties! Been looking at the alaskan and still cannot make my mind up if I want push feed or controlled feed. I like the higher comb of the alaskan. Will also downsize scope as all my current ones are 40's. Thinking 2-7 X 30, Leupold due to greater eye relief.

With the model 70, pictured previously, it wasn't one I necessarily wanted to 'give away' but there were 'circumstances' at that time. First, I had recently acquired my favorite 30 cal magnum in a Schultz & Larsen in 308NM. Also, my buddy was running into a bit of a tight time as far as finance was concerned and wanted to go on a Moose hunt in the worst way. I've been 'given' a few over the years so, I thought I'd reciprocate in kind. The only 'condition' was I get first opt to purchase if he ever decides to part with it. So far, not a hope in h**l that he'll let it go.:)Good. It's in the hands of someone that really appreciates it.
