I am looking at purchasing a winchester model 70 classic supergrade. I am going to pay about $1000 to my door. The rifle is a 1982 SUPERGRADE in .270, Im not super familiar with the changes made to the model 70 over the years as I have only owned a pre-64. So my question is what are the changes if any on the 82 vs any pre 64 or even against todays pre-64 styled m70s. Also what you the approximate value of the rifle be, new unfired.

Most people prefer the action of a pre-64 model 70 or pre-64 style action than the push feed style that you are purchasing. They are both fine just depends on what tickles your fancy. Also, I believe that price sounds a bit high unless it comes with a scope and rings, etc. I think some more experienced guys should chime in here. Any pictures you can show us? Do you still own the pre-64?

A number of years back, I had a post 64 in 300WM. When I picked up a Schultz & Larsen in a very similar chambering, 308NM, I gave the model 70 to a very good friend.

NICE gun but the Schultz & Larsen is my 1st choice in a bolt action. He still has the Super Grade and has no intention of parting with it.

The gun sat in a safe since new. Still remains unfired. The seller quoted the official gun digest "claw controlled round feed". I was assuming that meant is was styled after the pre-64, It is the CLASSIC SuperGrade is that matters.

I am having trouble uploading pictures from my iphone. Im not used to photobucket.

I had 2 mid 80s Supergrades and they were both CRF actions, as far as I know the old (reintroduced) supergrades were all CRF actions and every bit as nice as the new FN ones. They also had SUPERGRADE engraved in the floorplate and had select walnut. The two I had, a 300 WM and a 7 RM, were both outstanding rifles and most definitely were not push feed actions. Worth every penny of 1K given the price of the new ones........The better wood and the CRF actions is what made them SUPERGRADES..............
