I am gettin one, just waiting for the transfer to go through :D

It has a bi-pod,real nice scope and is chambered in .308.

Anyone have one of these babies? Can anyone recommend a good commercial round for it, what grain shoots best "not looking to shoot 1000yrds with it" more so, punching paper and maybe a moose next fall. I heard the 170-180grn rounds shoot the best out of it.

I do plan to eventually get some reloading gear and roll my own. And if anyone could chime in with info on that as well that would be much appreciated!

The Winchester model 70 Stealth is a direct replacement for their older "Heavy Varminter" and is advertised as a varmint rifle. But the solid black stock and matte black finish on all exposed parts lends itself well to tactical use. I figure this is the "politically correct" way USRA could build a tactical rifle. What ever the case, its a very nice entry level tactical rifle, and some think its the same as the FN Special Police. The quality of the rifles are fairly high for a production rifle, and accuracy is averaging around .65 MOA for these rifles with match ammo, with the typical rifles shooting between .5 and 1 MOA. That is the one big down side to mass produced rifles, you get a great rifle followed by a bad rifle, so be forewarned. The things I do not like about the Stealth is that it does not have the palm swell (like the Remington 700P) and it uses the push feed 70 action, I would prefer their claw feed, but the model 70 action is still a good action. I also prefer the wider trigger that is standard on the remington rifles. Overall, the rifle is good and will perform as well as remington and maybe even savage out of the box. There is a new serious player in the low end tactical rifle field.

I recently updated to a McMillan A5 Stock, Warne 20 moa Base, TPS Rings, and a Bushnell 4200 6-24x50 Scope.

Before the updates I was shooting factory Norma Match (168gr). But I plan on developing a load with some 155gr A-Max's when time/whether permits.
 
I really like that A5 stock, nice.

Could you tell me what kind of groups and what kind of yards with you we're getting with the factory rounds you mentioned?

I am pretty excited to get mine! The deal I got on it was to good to pass up "even though I am left handed" I hope to get used to it.
 
I am a remmy lover actually lol. Yes, I have done my research. I was actually going to get a 700 SPS in left hand but a friend gave me a good deal on his stealth II, so good a deal I couldn't pass it up. Plus the Stealth II is a better rifle then the 700 from the research I have done thus far.

Now I just need to get me some reloading gear and go to er! :D
 
I own the stealth .308 and it has been a very good shooter for me.
A very good friend put me onto this gun a few years ago.....unfortunatley this friend has recentley passed away.
 
Well here she is, not the greatest pictures as I took em at night time and my cam aint the greatest, it's got a Nikko Sterling 4x12x42 scope, weaver rings and a harris 1A2 Ultralight Bi-Pod.

Can't wait to shoot this #####! :D The bore is mint, my friend only shot no more then 100rnds through it, aside from a couple very very small scratches on the barrel, it looks brand spankin new!

And it just had a bath so that is why the barrel is kinda shiny from the gun oil.

ETA: now comparing this to the pics of the stealth on the net, the stock on mine appears to be different? it holds five rounds because I loaded it to test to make sure it was a II instead of a I. hmm..

Interesting. Could anyone in the know answer that for me? I am looking at pictures of other peoples stealth models and it doesnt say stealth on the barrel. Mine says Winchester Model 70 Heavy Barrel Cal .308Win on the barrel. He said he bought it brand new. The action and barrel is the exact same as the Stealth, 3 position saftey,etc etc. Oh well. It's actually better for me because I am going to be using this rifle for hunting anyways, so this stock is lighter indeed :)


EDIT: I know I am lookin like a dumb ass here, but I only seen the rifle once in person before it got taken away by the police and he lost his license, and I couldnt ask to see it from the cops until I got the the new registration put into my name so it could be released to me, so like ya... he told me it was a stealth. But I am thinking it is a mod 70 heavy varmint?
Either way, it is a beautiful rifle, and I love it very much. Now if it shoots as well as it looks... :D

If someone in the know could help me out as to it's exact model that would be great. the bolt is jeweled as well if you havent already noticed that in the crappy pictures "sorry I can take better ones in the day time if need be.
First four digits of the serial number are G206 if that helps. And I know 100% that it is not a Shadow.

I'm sure there are other changes, but I think the biggest difference between the Stealth and the Stealth II was the change from 3-piece bottom metal to 2-piece bottom metal. I have a Stealth in .308 that I picked up about a year ago. It's had a trigger tuneup, but otherwise no mods. 20MOA base/TPS rings/Leupold MK4 4.5-14 scope. Consistently shoots .55MOA for 5 shots with HSM Police ammo (175gSMK) out to 300yds, which is the furthest range I have access to.
 
so your saying my m70 is a stealth 1? beacuse from what I read the stealth 1 can only hold 3 rounds, and mine holds 5.

I am 90% sure that I have a model 70 heavy barrel varmint...
 
Not sure about magazine capacity. I'm pretty sure my Stealth holds 5, but I mostly single load. I was referring to the number of pieces comprising the bottom metal, not the mag capacity. I also only have a single sling stud, whereas the later ones seem to have 2. My barrel is marked Heavy Varmint, not Stealth. I've also heard that some have the HS stock, and some have the Bell & Carlson. Not sure if they went to the B/C with the Stealth II. Try PM'ing Hungry. IIRC he used to shoot a Stealth and his wife had a Stealth II. He should be able to detail the differences for you.
 
Well!

I am happy to say that I took the stock off and guess what it says in the barrel channel "M70 VARMINT POLICE :D :D :D"

So do I have a rare one on my hands here? because I cant find anything on it "yet" and the stock IS for this rifle because it says "M70 Varmint Police" in the barrel channel.
