The XTR upgrade appeared in 1978 and continued until 1992 . . . I think. In 1992 Winchester introduced what they called a controlled round push feed, a system by which the spring loaded push feed extractor held the round against the bolt face, which was intended to be less expensive than the M-70 Classic, which was the reintroduced CRF action. So I think the XTR designation ended in 1992.
