Winchester Model 85 High Wall Original Production Run

Hi all,

Recently acquired a Winchester Model 85 High Wall in .40-65 with a high-ish serial number. Currently in need of a rear tang. Wondering if any of you might have some good leads on where to find one or any information on exactly what is needed in regards to specs in order for it to fit properly on the rifle.

On a side note if any of you can point me towards someone selling .40-65 that would great!

You can find them used in the states on occasion but the importing fees are pretty costly. They generally won't require any fitting, they should just slide in place with a few taps.

Another option is Montana Vintage Arms. They sell parts that will fit the originals. I haven't used any of their stuff but I know people who have and they are happy.

Are you changing the tang so you can switch to a set trigger, or is there something wrong with the existing tang?
