I have a chance at a "used" (looks brand new) Winchester 94/22M. Would I be better off buying a new Henry Octagon in 22M or go with the used Winchester. Price is about the same. Thanks guys.

Well, to be honest, the only guy I knew who had one thought the accuracy sucked. I've never shot either, so I'm not much help. If it's any consolation, I don't think he was much of a shot. He wen't from a 10/22 spray and pray to the 'slow shooting' lever action. He wanted more power and moved up to the mag. My experiance with two WMR's were neither were able to shoot with my LR's in the accuracy department. If you were still considering these two, I'd buy both if I could. Otherwise get what your prefer. As I said, you won't find many 94/22's around much anymore. But I admit I prefer a new model over used.

Unfortunately can't afford both (don't want to raid my shotgun money). So it's one or the other. I have played with the Win. and it is sweet. Have yet to hold the Henry. Was just going by what I have read. I have other 22's I just wanted a mag. What ammo would you pick?

The cheapest hollow points you can find. These cartridges cost too much to shoot like a .22 if your shooting in abundance, like gophers. I used to like what the Winchester jacketed hollowpoint would do. The Supreme hollowpoint was just plain evil looking, and tended to tear apart critters with a more graphic result. The V-max loaded by Remington didn't do much to little critters, but cost me alot more. Federals 50 grain bullet is awesome on bigger animals, especially beavers. But for the most part, my shooting was done with Winchesters jacketed hollow point. I still have a pi$$ load around here. I guess I might have to get another WMR just to blast them off. Damnit.

Winchester or Henry????

I've had a Winchester model 9422 M now for 34 years , I've used it for groundhogs here in Ont., to about 140 yards , ( winchester .22 mag., jacketed hollowpoints , 40 gr., bullet ) they are great , I must have got 100 gr-hogs with mine over the years . The rifle has aways worked flawlessly ,they are accurate , not too loud , ammo about $8.50 a box for 50 rounds , I don't know the price of the one you are looking at , but if it's in good shape , $400 isn't out of line . The Winchester has a milled reciever , and parts , the Henry uses an alloy reciever , and stamped parts , .22's are low power arms so the different is only small, there's no reason the Henry won't be accurate and reliable . I also have a couple of Marlin 39 , the AS ( 24 inch barrel ) and the Mountie ( 20 inch ) both are good rifle's and I use "remington Yellowjackets" out of them ( 1500 f.p.s. )hollow points , there good to 100 yards only . The Winchester is a keeper though , I'd never part with mine , just had too much fun with it . good luck Joe

So should I buy the Henry or the Win.?

If the $ is pretty much the same, I would go with the Winshester. The Henry are nice and smooth... I guess I'm a little old fashion gun snob  I prefer blue steel over painted pop-metal.

My very first rifle was a 94/22 in 22lr, bought twenty some years ago...

Safe shooting,
Mike.

The Winchester is easier to find parts for and cheaper for parts and accessories.I just went through this finding a peep sight for my Henry. There isn,t a lot of parts for the Henry,s and what's there is expensive

The value of the Winchester will go up. or at least not go down.
The Henry will go down, as with any new rifle.
I'd go with the Winchester.

Accuracy is luck of the draw with any gun. I've got a 9422 in .22 Mag and it seems accurate but I've only tried it at 50 yards.
I've found the Remington V-max to be the most accurate in mine but have'nt done extensive testing yet.

Good call. A friend of mine has a matched set of 9422 and 9422M and they are great shooting rifles.

I recently shot a Henry .22LR Golden Boy. Nice slick action but if felt a little cheap to me and the trigger had some nasty creep.

This was my son's first rifle I bought him 5 years ago, a Henry .22LR he stills prefers shooting it over a Ruger 10/22. The only problem I have with it is the magazine tube, on several times its loosened off with about 2 or 3 rounds left in the tube and came out.

Can't say for certain on all models, but a number of Henry's have some plastic internals. Likely not a problem if you don't shoot a lot but I prefer steel parts to plastic or even "space age polymer".

Winchester or Henry

Buy the Winchester it's twice the gun. Henry is just a cheaper gun. I have friends with 94/22's and one friend with the Winchester 94/22M XTR (I think that's the model) and it's a really great gun. Most of my friends love the 94/22, and don't like the Henry. The Henry may only be arround for a short period, and if it breaks you may be SOL.

Well I bought it. Found a brand new 94/22 laminate sweet rifle( the 94/22m had been sold), paid way to much for it though. So much for the shotgun fund. This rimfire s**t is getting way to addictive. What 22lr works best otta these?
