So, I stopped by my local Crappy Tire this PM to pick up some .308 ammo. I've used PMB's in various calibres in the past, along with other Win. ammo, with no issues.
However, when I got home and inspected the contents, I noted eight out of twelve rounds had noticeable blemishes on the projectiles: including one projectile that appear mechanically deformed. The others appeared as if there were either lead deposits on the outside of the jacket of the jacket itself is not uniform and the lead core is poking through the thin side.
Needless to say, I am concerned about the QC of this particular lot and it's effectiveness to shoot accurately, expand uniformly and ensure a clean and ethical kill.
Dings, dents, blemishes on the brass casing has never bothered me, because fire-forming, but the projectiles, to me, matter.
I would have inspected on the premises, but prior experiences have demonstrated CT employees to be wary of handing over the contents until purchase. Even then, ammo is sealed in a vinyl bag until at the cash register and I wasn't apt to fondle twenty rounds for quality with the line-up behind me. That would be rude.
I kept the receipt, even though ammo sales are final as with most stores.
Do I have an option to bring this up with Winchester? Has anybody has any success with any ammo mfg. in similar circumstances or do I have to suck it up, squib half a box of ammo and hope the other twelve rounds, unblemished to the naked eye, are in fact manufactured to proper specification?
Thanks,
Ian
