Winchester primer rebate

Lots of damaged guns from Winchester primers. I had a SR primer go in a S&W revolver and it scarred the firing pin bushing pretty badly, on top of destroying the firing pin and spring.

QC must have changed because always thought they were one of the best. Pretty much all I use in large rifle hunting loads but primers are probably over two decades old, bought by the thousands at a fraction of today’s prices. Never an issue or misfire that I remember, but don’t here good things anymore. Slowly switching to Federal GM for accuracy and CCI for hunting.

I had two different batches that fired just fine, but ended up with a perforation between the edge of the primer and the case. Apparently many batches had/have thin metal in the cups. The the escaping gas from the perforations ended up scoring the bolt face of a Sako and a Cooper. Both loads were well below max. If you do some research on this forum and elsewhere you will see many people have had the same experience. I will never use Winchester primers again.

I had had this happen as well. My beautiful 686 7” Talo has perforations all around the firing pin hole from Winchester primers loaded near Max. I always though it was my fault somehow because I had just started reloading at the time and didn’t know about others having the same thing happen.

woohoo, Federal rebate and now this

I bought 15K back in June, and now get another 25% off when I got 18% from SFRC, rebate in USD too

so basically got them for 50% off at $42.99 per 1000
