My wife owns a Winchester Ranger 7mm Remington magnum bolt action rifle. I would like to know how to date the rifle with the serial number. Also, is this a model 70 pattern or another model.

TIA!

The Ranger was Winchesters cheaper entry level model 70 push feed rifle. It was made between 1991 and 1999. It came in two models, a standard and youth/compact model. They all had nice open sights and either a blind or floorplate magazine. Most were beechwood stocks without checkering iirc. There is no plastic on these and they were accurate rifles with easily adjustable triggers. The beech stocks actually refinished very well and showed some unique grain compared to what they looked like new. I have one in 30-06 that has been refinished and is quite nice for a Ranger.

Any idea what calibres they came in? I have owned them in .270, 30-06 and now I have 7mm mag coming. I wonder if they made these in .223 or .22-250? I can't find any literature on the net about them.

I had a Ranger youth carbine in .223 when they first came out. Fun little rifle to poke about the woods with & it shot well, but needed a bit of spot bedding and load development to get 'er dialed in.

I've got one in .30-06 about to receive a new recoil pad, it was my dad's gun which he bought new back in '92 or so. Really solid and lightweight, love the sights. Fine hunting rifle on the push-feed Model 70 action.
