Winchester Shot Show Special Model 70 Featherweight in 257 Roberts

I picked one up from Epps. This is my third FN Winchester and by far the nicest. The other two are a 2008 sporter and a 2009 featherweight. Fit and finish on the Bob as well as the wood is much nicer. Tried shooting it this weekend, but due to rotator cuff surgery a couple months ago and my first shooting attempt, my groups were nothing to brag about. My brother in law was able to produce a 1.5" group with factory Remington 117 grain core-locts. It will get better with some handloads now that I have some brass for it.

Woodbeef or leojlafrog, would either one of you know the weight of that Featherweight scoped or otherwise ?
My hoard of Roberts brass might come in handy... lol...

Mine would be one of the six of them from Epps. My rifle with leupold dual dovetail bases, low rings and a FX-II scope, it tipped my cheapo scale at 7 3/4lbs.

Kevan,I have no way of weighing it. But I'll say it's more than 4oz lighter compared to my sporter in 30-06,that the Winchester site claims.

I don't know why they chambered it in a long action.

Back in the day they were commonly chambered in short actions but it seemed everyone wanted the 257 in a long action so heavier bullets weren't seated as deeply allowing for more powder capacity. I've never owned one so I can't speak from personal experience but I lusted for one for quite some time and this was commonly related in gun mags and books. Ruger's is(was) also in the long action so it appears the gunmakers were listening.
