What is going on with the price of Winchester Silvertip Hollow Point 115gr 9mm ammo? Can't seem to find any in Canada and the US sources want more than $50.00/ box of 50 for it. I am getting Winchester target 9mm for .30-.35 cents a round but 4X that price for Silvertip seems a little steep!

It's defensive ammo. There is always a mark up on defensive ammo. Regardless of brand, they are almost always close to $1/rd. That's why we shoot bulk ammo at paper!
Silvertips are for werewolves, doncha know?

Bass Pro sells Winchester SXZ Personal Protection 9mm 115g HP for $21.99/50

I have a box of Win Silvertip 115gr HP 9mm. It's not all that....believe me. I'd MUCH rather have Federal HST 147 gr JHP +P (which I also have) now that's a 9mm load. Even Hydra-Shok 147's @ 1,000 fps are an amazing PP load.

I think 115's are too light for penetration, especially JHP which flatten like a dime on impact.

9mm 147 grain @ 1,000 fps or greater (+P) is the way to go.....for PP that is.

If you need to reach out and touch your targets I'd go with lighter & faster 115/124 +P+ JHP... or FMJ for punching paper

This goes back a while now but I think there was a study where one shot stops by police were rated by caliber. The Federal 115gr JHP (9BP) rd rated the highest in 9mm and out performed some bigger calibers also. It was in the mid 90% range.
I understand that the 9mm is probably the most issued round in the US and this may skew the stats but 90+% is a good number for a light round!
IIRC, the 125gr. Remington or Federal JHP in .357 mag took the cake overall. Remember, this is from the late 80s, early 90s. Things have probably changed since but I haven't kept up.
