Was recently given to me a sawed off (legal) Winchester break open I beleaf to be a 37.
Need to pattern it one day.
What would be the expected range to hit a grouse with?
Shells would be whatever is in me pawkitt at the time.
Number 5 - 71/2 lead in 2-3/4" shells.
This gal be ahh trunk monkey furr-shurr.

All the grouse that Ive ever shot have been at close distances, ten feet to maybe 40 feet. That gun should be fine with whatever shot shells you use.

I find most of the time I shoot grouse it’s between 10-25yds when on the road or walking trails. When I pattern I shoot a couple shells at 15y & 25 and then I do a 40y as well so I know my spread for when I see birds a bit farther out, 40y is my max range I’ll take shots at grouse. I don’t have any problem dropping them with a 12g that far out if they’re on the ground with the right choke. Mod or full depending on the gun I’m using.

I have always used an IC choke in my 12 guage, never missed or wounded one so far. Have shot them at ranges up to 40y, on the wing or the ground. They are damn tasty, don't have issues ground swatting them, meat is meat.
