I have an opportunity to pick up a trap Model Winchester Super X (the older model). Stock needs to be refinished, but over in good condition. Price is $450 I plan on using it for trap shooting.

Any thoughts, pro or con.

Thanks.

Go for it ... not a bad price. Best auto-loader Winchester ever made.
Points & balances much better than an 1100 or 11-87.
Excellent auto-loader. Like all others, keep it clean, especially the piston and magazine tube ( 0000 steel wool IS YOUR FRIEND) and keep the recoil buffer in the end of the receiver in good shape.

I have a Super X-1 field model and they are a nice gun. At $ 450.00 it's a good buy, but I'll second the advice to check the recoil buffer. Simple to do by just dropping out the trigger group and inspecting. If the buffer is shot out it will bang up the rear of the receiver and can break the breach block as well and thats a expensive fix. Suggest you put in the tune up kit from Brownells which will run you around $75.00 ( buffer, recoil spring, plunger , gas seal and believe it includes a stainless replacement tube ).

Thanks for the advice. Even though the trap club is closed for the season will take it out and fire a few rounds out of it.

Checked the buffer and it is in good shape. 8)
