Why not. I bought an SXP Defender and luckily, a 28" barrel was available from the dealer when I picked up the defender. I was hesitant in getting the barrel initially, ended buying it. No regrets! I tried Trap Shooting, got hooked, now I am looking for a club within an hour drive of Toronto and ending up buying 2 more 12 Ga. Just make sure the short barrel you are getting fits a 3.5 chamber. I read somewhere that for an SXP, if the max length as stamped is 3.5", a 3" chambered barrel will not fit into the receiver. I might be wrong though. Or your other option is, another long barrel, get it shortened professionally. It will be expensive, but doable. For some reasons, you will find very few aftermarket parts for SXP. Unlike Rem 870 and Mossberg 5XX series, WIN SXP might have fewer takers that makes it not feasible to design and make aftermarket parts. It is still a decent gun though.
