Winchester SXR2 semi in 9.3x62, thoughts?

The 9.3x62 rifle I just bought is a bolt action Sauer 100 Classic XT black synthetic on clearance from Precision Optics, thanks Omar! https://www.precisionoptics.net/Sauer_100_Classic_XT_9_3x62_22_Black_Synthe_p/sauer100xt9.3x62.htm

And I'm going to put a Bushnell Elite 4500 2.5-10x40 on it with Talley medium 30mm rings. I also picked up some Hornady Custom International 286 grain soft point ammo for it... Now for Canada Post 'et al' to do their thing & deliver lol!

Let us know what you think of that. I honestly looked at buying one too, but couldnt get my hands on one to check it out.

I have 2 bolt rifles, shot aaalot with either, never let me down (1st Gen T3 Hunter + M.96 Commercial Husqvarna with a peep sight. They are my favs, for decades...

These 9.3 semis are nice - beauts, I would use for hunting Moose + never for Bear Defense: too many extra things to go wrong ... keep it simple - bolt 9.3 or pump 12 G. Coming from a Bear Photographer <------- blank goes up 1st, Rubber next, then all 12G slugs for bear protection. I have a good buddy who takes aaalot of Polar Bear pics, way more outdoors + animal pics than I - same load out with a 12 G. Pump 12" brl full stock.

But they sure look nice and shoot well ✔
Sorry to derail OP
Having a blank and a rubber slug tells me you are not in danger. Only slugs for bears. Have never had enough time to cycle a second shot or purge two useless rounds when in bear trouble. It all happens too fast.

I say get the semi. They are proven if taken care of. Just like anything mechanical.

I have over the last 40 plus years carried , Brno 602 - .458 Lott , Tikka T3 - 9.3x62 , FN 49 - 30-06 , Benelli R1 - 30-06 , Marlin 45-70. There were a few others but these were the main ones. The Brno although can do almost anything , but it is heavy very heavy and you don't need that much power to stop a bear. The Tikka was very light and in that calibre not a lot of fun to shoot a lot. FN 49 very reliable 10 rnds. ( legal at the time ) but heavy. So for the last number of years the Benelli and the Marlin have been the go to rifles. Not a big fan of shotguns for the work we do , up close and bad breath range they are great. But when you are guarding other people and the range can get out to 50 - 75 yards shotguns are not stoppers much past 30 yards. Benelli never let me down ever. The Marlin was a joy to carry and again never let me down. These are just my experiences over the years.

Unless things have changed here in BC, since I was last certified about 5 years ago, the only firearm allowed for problem wildlife (bearwatch) work is(was) the Rem 870 12 gauge, w/ slugs.
And if you need to shoot one for this work, it had better be well within 30 yards, so it is a sufficient firearm for this work.
Actually planning on getting certified again for an upcoming project.

I do agree that a centerfire rifle cartridge has more power, but a lot of people getting into this type of work don't have the experience with a rifle to accurately place their shots on a charging bear at close range, so the 12 gauge is a better option for them.
Previously, when I could get certified for rifle as well as shotgun for this, I was the only one doing so for my employer at the time, and no other people from other organizations attending the training were doing so. And I certified with both a lever action and a bolt action rifle, at the time, for a few years.

As for the semis in a 9.3x62, they are definitely an interesting firearm! Talk about a quick one, two punch with authority!
I remember when Browning introduced the LH BAR and thinking that a carbine in 300 WSM or 338 Win Mag would make a great thick timber rifle for bears and moose. Although the reliability of the semi, isn't often mentioned as being as good as a bolt action, I haven't known too many with semis to ask about this first hand, about reliability issues. Sorry to hear that the fellow above had reliability issues with his BAR.

dbd: Which semi is offered in LH that you are referring to? BAR (which I was aware of), or other?

A double in 9.3x74R would be another rifle that would an interesting alternative...might have to look into one:unsure:
