I was just wondering if anyone had chronographed the 165gr load. On the Winchester website it says it has a MV of 1,060 fps, so it should make major PF, but my experience is that those MVs are always on the high side.

Anyone know the realistic MV?

An American gentleman I know shot the Triangle match last year using this ammunition out of his HK USP.
Power factor came out at 170.3 after 6 bullets, 3 required to get average of 170 or better for Major.
First 3 averaged somewhere around 167 or 8.

Well there are a number of factors that can effect the velocity. The two biggest factors with the firearm are the "tightness" of the chamber and the length of the barrel. The tighter the chamber the higher the velocity. The shorter the barrel the higher the velocity. Winchester powders also will react differently in different temperatures more so then other powders from what I have found.

In short your best bet is to chrono the ammunition out of your pistol to see what happens. Try to get as much of the ammo from the same lot # or production date as you can because there can be differences in velocity from batch to batch also.

Hk barrel in .40 is the same length of the 9mm= 4.25".
BUT, the polygonal barrel will get a little extra velocity out of it. I have heard that in most regular 5" barrels, the Win 165gr may not make PF....?

Hmm, I'll have to try it. At least it's close enough that it'll do for practice. To be honest I prefer the 155gr loads at higher MV but they're hard to find.
