I have a question. Not sure if this has been asked. I wanted to know which one burns cleaner winchester super target or federal top gun shells? Both for a 12 gague shotgun. Both with 1 1/8.

Both are really the same price just wanted to see what is easier to clean as I have an A400 gas 12G. My A400 has had no problem with cycling both. Is one better then the other or is this like the Ford vs Chevy debate?

While this may not be specific to your query, I've always found Federal to be cleaner burning ammunition, in all varieties, than either Winchester,...or Remington.

Interesting because I have found the cheap winchester to be cleaner than the cheap Feds. I still buy federals because they are much more reliable and better quality. For examples I usually find 3-4 shells with primers sunk in too deep per case of shells. With federals it's usually only 1 or 0. My buddy had a winchester shell that was completely missing the primer, seen it with my own eyes.

Now if I were you I would buy SCORE shotshells. Made in canada and great quality. They are usually the same price or 5-10$ more but I'd rather have the money going to a canadian business than some one from another country.

I avoid the cheap Winchester shells because the base metal expands way too much sometimes. A bunch of the ones I have are not magnetic and kind of dull, maybe aluminum instead of steel? But aluminum is more expensive so it doesn't make sense for saving money. I've had shells split the edge of the base metal they expanded so badly in an 870. They work okay in my Browning A5 so if I end up with any I just use them all in that.

I've never noticed Winchester, Federal, or Remington to be any dirtier or cleaner than each other. If I fire 50-100 shells through a shotgun (the most I usually do in one outing, I'm not that big into skeet or trap) I usually have to clean it just as much. I'd choose Federal over Winchester just because of the issues I've had with the base metal.
