I have a question regarding Win wads for trap. I have always used WAA12 white wads with 1 and 1/8 oz loads. I see that some of the fellows have switched to WT12 orange wads which are some what cheaper and say they are scoring just as well with them and using the same loads. Does anyone have experience with the WT12 wad and the loads that use with them?

Winchester, I'm sure, introduced the WT12 "Orange" wad to get into the game
to compete with the "replacement" Claybuster and similar wads. I found them to be slightly "stiffer" or "harder" in composition that the Standard white 12ga "AA" wad, but they did pattern similarly... in warm weather. For winter shooting, the white AA wads patterned noticeably better, all else being equal. Basically the same results with Claybusters, they didn't pattern quite as well as the "AA's" in cold weather. Quite inconsequential for skeet, but I would suggest that scores would suffer at handicap trap distances.

Thank you for the info. Cannot understand why according to Alliant that I would need to use only 17 grains of Red Dot to get a psi of 10700 and using the WT12 and using 18 grains of Red Dot in WAA12 only 10400 and yet both velocitys are listed at 1200 ft. per sec.

The design of the was is exactly the same as the WAA12 white wad. The dept and everything is identical. The composition of the plastic is different I agree, but still do not know why I need to load less powder to get more pressure than I do with the white wad. The only thing that I can see is that the orange wad, because it is harder or stiffer seals better when you fire the shell. Makes sense to me.
