Thinking about getting one. Anybody had any experience with this critter? I know they are made in Russia but are they any good?

Are the varmint models actually available in Canada? If so they should be a way better gun than the sporter model. To me, the sporter feels too light and the trigger is not adjustable. The varmint model has a fully adjustable trigger.

They are a rebadged TOZ with a few cosmetic changes.
My TOZ is a real shooter - by far the most accurate 22 rifle I have.
The TOZ has the adjustable trigger and it is a nice feature.

As Iron Glove mentioned, the TOZ 78 is a most excellent shooter and AFIK it's the same as the standard Wildcat but unsure if the Wildcat has the adjustable trigger; I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the heavy barrel varmint model.

I tried to order one earlier this year , no luck, BO for something like 6 months  So I ordered a Savage Mark II BV, better looking with the laminate stock :D Accuracy is there too

I was lucky enough to pick up a Winchester Wildcat Target/Varmint a few months back in my local shop. Like others have mentioned, it's a Toz-78 rockin' the Winchester name.

The trigger is adjustable but with the wildcat target there's no hole in the trigger guard to allow for use of a fullsize screwdriver (a 3/4" long flat "plus sign" shaped screwdriver comes with the gun for this.)

Out of the box, the 20" heavy bull barrel is free-floated all the way to the receiver(a business card and then some for clearance, lol.) :D

So far mine rocks a Barska 6-25 x 50 varmint in Leupy Rimfire Rings, a Harris bipod, and a Blackhawk Industries rifle cheek pad. It likes Federal Bulk 525 and Remington Yellowjacket equally and is a sub 1" shooter at 50yds. I've fired it at 100 and 200 yds; Sub 3" groups are a possibility at 200 on a good day. :sniper:

FWIW, Rimfire Central has some excellent info on these rifles under the "Russian Rimfires and Biathlon" Section. ;)

Awsome guys, thanks for the info. I picked one up on the weekend. No range report yet. The snow is playing he77 with us out here on the coast right now, but I think I'll be happy with it.

I have the Winchester Wildcat Sporter. I love it. I was looking for a lighter rifle, smaller in size for smaller hands. This one fits me perfectly. It has a 2 stage trigger that gave me a pretty similar feel to the acutrigger on some of the savages.
Shoots smooth and accurate straight out of the box. I also love that it came with 4 magazines 3- 10 round and 1- 5round. I thought because they aren't metal that they might not be as smooth and easy to load, but they work the same. I'm still breaking it in, but so far no problems. And with that nice wood stock, it's also easy on the eyes :)
I would expect the same results with the varmit. And it does have an adjustable trigger.
