Winchwster 1885 Low wall

Has anyone tried A Winchester Low wall in 17HMR ? I like the low wall style but a almost 3 times the cost of a CZ I would want it to shoot pretty good.
I have a couple of Low walls in .22 rim fire they shoot pretty good but I don't think they can stay with a CZ. I guess I should also ask about the new 17WSM as well.

I remember reading a thread a while back about the 17wsm and one fella had a low wall in both hmr and wsm and he said the wsm could not match the accuracy of the hmr. I'll see if I can find that thread.

That is pretty much what I am reading as well. The WSM does not have .the same accuracy potential as the HMR. It would be a neat cartridge although I think it could still tern out to be a flash in the pan.
I would love to own a low wall but a 17 that does not group well is kind of useless.

I suspect that part of the issue with a low wall is the support point used on the barrel and fore stock. Keep in mind that the CZ bolt rifles have floated barrels where a low wall sits on the barrel. So part of the "fun" with such a gun is finding the sweet spot where it should be supported. And it does not help that if a scope is used that it ends up mounted on the barrel where on a bolt rifle it's on the receiver.

So all in all I'd say that the low wall CAN be set up to shoot just as well. But it may take some extra time and money instead of being an out of the box solution like the Cz.

I'm running into all this with a couple of center fire single shot rifles. An old antique rolling block with a more modern barrel and a new Uberti Hi Wall. Both are in .38-55. I also ran into fore stock floating issues and support point with a TC Encore I've got. It's more of a challenge but I just prefer this style of rifle over bolt actions so for me it's worth the effort.

I put an order in for the 1885 in 17 WSM from the shot show that introduced it. Waited for over a year. I bought it because im an iron sight shooter and its a flat shooter that when sighted in at 100yds it still hits about the same at 200 yds. I personally hate the sights it came with and the rear were loose. Put Williams iron sights fully adjustable on it and love them. My Savage B mag is just as accurate but prefers the 20 gr over the 25 and needed a scope. The savage safety failed to work and took some re work to get it working again. But for the money, $1400, the Winchester fails to please me, out of the box. as far as 17HMR i have the Ruger77/17 Bolt action.Except for the need of a scope, its worked flawlessly and is very accurate.Ive added bolt shims to tighten lock up but that was only a few bucks. I think CZ may be the way to go for the money.My nephew works in a gun shop and swears by them and hes an accuracy nut. The 17HMR and 17WSM of mine are very accurate. the WSM killed groundhogs as far as 200m ive never used the HMR on hogs at that distance. Can only relate what I know. Hope this makes sense.
