Hi all,

I recently switched to winchester winclean ammo (have been shooting their FMJ for years), and I noticed that it is... REALLY dirty!! Lots and lots of smoke, the insides of the gun are filthy... WTF?? This is supposed to be clean ammo?

I'm shooting the 9mm 124gr BEB. Any ideas/comments? Thanks!

I believe the "clean" part applies to the complete jacket on the bullet. No nasty lead getting into the air at the range.

Also the primers use no lead or other heavy metals.

I'll have to take a close look at the 9mm that I purchased recently. Only fired about 10 rounds of two types but didn't notice it was 'dirtier'.

We use it exclusively on our range. The brass looks new after firing, guns are pretty clean after lots of use. Maybe you got a bad batch?

you must be referring to that greyish residue that looks and behaves like a cement. It is better/cleaner for indoor ranges. It does however leave a cement like substance on the inside of the reed ramp and trigger bar (and just about everywhere else inside of the gun)

I have shot this ammo and found there was noticably less fouling then other ammo. x2 for the bad batch.

yeah... I do have that...

The worst case was in Ottawa, the first several shots created so much smoke I could not see my sights! I just remember a friend of mine telling me that winClean is so clean he doesn't need to clean him gun at all... (yeah, I did know that the 'winclean' referred to the lead-free aspect of it, I was just comparing what I experienced with what Mark told me about his experiences...).
