I recently came into a European scope with no internal windage adjustments - relies totally on the windage adjustment within the rear base. Currently sitting in Beuhler mounts, which seem perfect, except I would like to move it to another rifle, and the appropriate Beuhler bases seem to be unobtanium...

So looking at Leupold / Redfield style. Unlike the Beuhler, with the split front base with cross bolt, the Leupold/Redfield seem to rely only on a "friction" fit of the front ring into that front dovetail. It would seem that any "windage" adjustment would simply be bending the scope tube until the friction in that front ring is overcome - many repeats of that and the front ring would become loose in its dovetail?

So, looking for suggestions for a suitable windage adjustable mount set up - would be going either onto a Husqvarna - currently uses Weaver 46 front and 55 rear - or a Schultz and Larsen M60 - which would use a Weaver 46 front and 54 rear. The scope and Beuhler mounts are coming off a Winchester Model 70 which uses Weaver 46 front and 47 rear, so that rear base is not appropriate either for height or hole spacing

It usually takes a lot of on and off to loosen a front dovetail mount as the Leupold/Redfield design... I always twist on clockwise and remove anti clockwise... do not go all the way in one direction... and if it ever becomes loose you can tighten it by tapping the bottom 'dovetail' lightly with a hammer... best not done while on the scope. Always use a good lubricant on the dovetail... I use a grey anti seize compound.

Any Leupold or Redfield style mount with the side screws at the back adjusts for windage. If you use Burris rings you .ca adjust that way too, with inserts. - dan

Well - A budget approach would be Weaver bases and Millett rings. A lot of folk dislike the Millett rings, however, they are steel, and if set up properly, they work fine. Making precision windage adjustments might require a bit of finesse, but it is doable...

Probably not a "budget" type solution, but the new-to-me rifle is apparently showing up with Conetrol bases and rings. From on-line reading, I expect that the windage issue will be resolved - the cartridge is 7x61, so likely 154 grain Hornady's are going to be the diet - set it up, and go with the decades (centuries?) old "kentucky windage" after that!!
