I'm looking to buy my second AR, I have a Norinco CQ-A and am looking for something that is a little better quality that I can add some goodies to. My friend has a DPMS Panther 16" that he really likes, I'm looking for a 14.5" flat top or can be modified to flat top and have been looking at the Windham. I had a chance to handle one but not shoot it and it seems to be a step or 2 up from the Norinco, was there a site sponsor advertising them for $999 or did I miss that. Are these better than the DPMS or is there something better than the Windham for the $900-$1,300 range.

Thanks!

I have a windham vex SS and its been great. Everything about it is good quality, I've put over 800 rounds through it so far and have no regrets buying it.

Windham's are nicely made guns, but the price point puts them into the same price range as Stag, take a look at Armseast, take a look at he specs, and add in great warranty service without leaving the country. Complete Stag rifles in Canada carry a lifetime warranty.

My windham still has the smoothest action of my 4 ARs and still is a great shooter. Probably best buy for the price I've made. Eats every kind of ammo I can feed it

I have a Windham SRC AR-15 and am totally satisfied with it. No issues with fit or function, eats all ammo. I would buy one again. The transferable warranty is a nice feature too.

As someone's first AR choice there is nothing wrong with the Windham, however I really don't think it is much of step up from a Norinco as a second AR, save a few hundred dollars more and step up to a Daniel Defense or Bravo Company

I second this. I have the same rifle and its great. No issues with fit or finish. Runs great except when the loose nut behind the trigger causes a problem. I got mine from Prairie Gun Traders. Extra fast shipping and great service, helped a restricted-noobie out with the CFO and paperwork.

An American made rifle with a warranty is a huge step up from a Norinco. It may still be an entry level AR but it's miles ahead of the Norc.

OP, also look at the Core brand of AR's for a good rifle on a budget.

Be sure to post some pics when you get one.

I'll also suggest you check out CORE. I handled both at Wanstalls before deciding on the CORE15 over the Windham. Fit and finish just seemed a little better. Not a lot, but enough that I noticed it.

Really can't go wrong either way...

mine has been great, and is it NO WAY in the same class as a Norinco one. the fit and finish is MILES better, its completely standard AR-15 as well, not like the Chinese guns(some parts are not standard on those). The trigger is very good to excellent, for a stock non match trigger, and the Norinco trigger is, well Norinco.

and it has a lifetime transferrable warranty
