I just got my first AR-15 the other day.

I was wondering if its possible to buy aluminum upper/lower receivers and swap all the parts over to them?
Would I have to buy anything else to make this work?

Technically, yes, although the new receiver would have to be registered, as it is restricted, and you would be left with the other one, unless you sell it. You may also need a few pieces if there are proprietary parts due to the CF receivers.

You would also need the tools to do it, and pray that they didn't loctite the lower receiver extension into the lower receiever, if it is removeable.

Regards.

Congrats Madmardigan! I picked up my WW CF AR-15 yesterday!

At any rate, based on the research I did, it seems like there are no proprietary parts on the carbon fibre receivers. Some of the areas are a little more built up to ensure strength (top of the receiver at the front pivot and near the buffer tube, if I recall correctly) but outside of that it should be compatible with other uppers and lowers.

At least I hope so because I have been mulling an x39 addition to it...

Unless you got a smokin' deal, you should have bought another AR if you didn't want the carbon fiber upper and lower. Uppers and lowers aren't super cheap. I'd just shoot the thing as is.

I have one.....it is staying factory. Iirc.....I did read somewhere that the upper is different and a standard upper will not work. But don't quote me on that.

I got a good deal on it. And I'm not selling it either. From what I understood, all the parts are interchangeable with milspec AR's.
I bought this rifle because I thought It'd be a better starter AR than a Norinco.
My plan was to get something cheap, and to add upgrades here and there, then eventually piece togeather another AR from the salvaged parts.
I've looked into aluminum receivers, and they aren't too expensive. I think I can get both upper/lower for under $400 new. That's about the differnce in cost from what I paid for the CF modle, to what I would of paid for a Windham with aluminum receivers. Plus I'll still have the CF upper and lower to do another build.
Anyway, that was my reasoning for getting the CF modle.
Was just curious of anyone has tried this, and if there was any extra parts I'd have to buy to swap everything over.
