Windham Weaponry SRC AR-15 questions

Let me say at the outset that I am ignorant in the world of AR-15s. I'm a Comblock rifle man myself but today I came across an AR-15 that stoked my interest and I had some questions that I hope the M4 platform gurus can answer for me.

In a local gunatorium there was a Windham Weaponry AR-15 that I believe was the SRC model (stupidly I forgot to take down the model) that is marked down to about $750 (from $850) due to a closing out sale. Light as hell (counter guy remarked a lot of it was carbon fibre) and seemed well made. How is the SRC in terms of quality? I'm new to AR-15s but even I know that an $850 price point is on the lower end of the AR-15 scale.

How easy is it to change out the foregrips? It has those ribbed for her pleasure grips that I don't like and I'd prefer to change it out to something sweet looking like those flashy picatinny rails.

Finally, is the SRC actually worth the $750?

Windham makes a solid mil-spec AR. Certainly not finished like a DD, but much lower price. I put it in with CORE as a solid value oriented choice.

I don't have any experience with the Carbon Fibre models. I know they're supposed to be as solid as aluminum, but I'm not sure I'd get one... Maybe I'm too much a traditionalist.

I've never heard complaints that Windham is out of spec, so I'm sure changing handguards is as easy as holding back the delta ring...

They do make good AR's however if you change out the buttstock, they do use commercial spec and NOT mil spec sized buffer tubes

I don't have the SRC but my Windham has been flawless for two years running. It gets out at lest every 2 weeks.

They're not compatible, but there's no REAL difference in function between milspec and commercial buffer tubes. Just be aware it's commercial dimensions if you're buying a new stock.

The Kelly's deal is the best I've seen in all my surfing. I bought my x39 WW off them. Good service.

I have it and like it alot. The WW carbon is a fantastic rifle. Forend replacement with Magpul MOE in seconds and fits perfectly. X10 on the advice about the stock, I purchased mil spec and it's the wrong one. 750 is a very fair price. Know that you will have to put a few dollars into sights or an optic. This could run you $100-$400.

This rifle is tight, light and quick.

I got my SRC at a grand opening sale at Firearms Outlet Canada. For $595. I got iron sights (actually aluminum, the gas block gets HOT) and now I just need to zero it. I shot 100 rounds through it my first time out to the range and no problems with the guns. The Russian steel cased ammo had some feed problems with the magazines but that cleared up after a while.

From the various reviews I saw the internal dimensions are all Millspec back and things like drop in triggers should work with no problem. The carbon fiber upper and lower seem to run fairly cool.
