I have a Remington 870 Wingmaster I am told was made around the 60s but that is rumor. I have looked at the Remington site but gave up looking for their supposed email address. SN is 48487xV. Anybody know?

The charts in the link are for BARREL CODES which are located on the left side of the barrel close to the receiver. This will tell you when the barrel was made.
I have never seen any charts with serial number ranges produced for each year, however from 1950 to 1968 Remington 870s did not have a PREFIX in their serial numbers. Starting in 1968 they began with an "S" prefix.
That changed to:
a "T" in 1974
a "V" (prefix) in 1978
a "W" in 1984
an "X" in 1990
an "A" in 1991
a "B" in 1994
a "C" in 1997
a "D" in 2001
I believe the repondents above confused the barrel marking code with the "x" plugged in as a place holder in the serial number and a V SUFFIX which indicates 12 gauge, 2 3/4" chamber.
the charts are for the month and year starting from 1950 for rifles and shotguns it was given to me by Remington to do there warranty work so i could identify yr. of manufacture .
