I have a nice Wing Master with the corn cob for arm. Ithink it's Mfg from mid 60s.It's in 2.75. Would like to get Tac Ord to do a build, useing VCS parts. Gave them a call but they're at the shot show till the 22. Will a 3 in. chambered barrel work in my reciever? I suppose I cauld have my 30 in. barrel cut to 18.5 in. But would like to be able to use 3 in. shells. How much is lost by going to a 14 in. barrel? I know some here have done these builds and have asked the ??.Can you share. Never use the gun for hunting and would like to give it a new purpose. Don

Supermag that i chopped to 14" .. since i only shot up milk bottles, clays and pine cones .. i couldnt really tell you about the finer points of its performance

To shot 3" shells you will need a 3" barrel and and new extractor which needs to be riveted to the receiver. It results in two visible rivets on the right side of the receiver. Refinishing while make them less noticeable. I believe the ejection port needs to be enlarged as well.
There isn't much (if any) need for 3" loads in a tactical situation.
I have a wingmaster built in 1981 with a 2 3/4" extractor that's going to stay where it is. A 14" Norinco barrel rides in front with a 3" chamber, but I have no desire to shoot 3" shells so things well stay as they are.

I was adding up what I'd like Tac Ord to do. Comes to around 1132 Bucks plus the barrel cost. I think the work and parts are worth it. Was hopeing the Port was big enough to handle 3 in. Big investment, would like to have the option of 3 in. I would likely only shoot mostly 2.75 in. Useing my barrel I'd have to go 18.5 to comply. Any body invest this much on a 2.75 in. only. Do you think it might hert resale? It would have really every thing I'd want for about 1200 bucks according to the price list on the Web Site.

A 3" barrel works fine on a 2.75" wingmaster receiver. I have that combination and it works with no problems. You can actually cut your barrel to 18" before it becomes prohibited, the 18.5" limit is only for semi-auto centerfires to remain non-restricted.

Do I think you should spend $1200 plus a barrel plus the receiver to build a shotgun? Hell no. But it is your money and only you can decide if it is worth that much to you.

As for resale, you will never come close to getting your money back out of a project like this. If you do really well selling it you might get 75-80% of the money back. Personally, if I was spending that much I would keep going and buy a Benelli of some description.

This is my old wingmaster with an 18.5" Express barrel (3" chamber) with choke tubes and a +2 extension. I have cut down the stock and mounted a limbsaver recoil pad to take some of the sting out of slugs and buckshot.

:agree: 3" in a short barrel is good if you need a flame thrower. I just shoot 2 3/4 in my 14" and did what forbes did. 14" barrel on my 2 3/4 wingmaster.

but swapping the other barrel just looked ridiculous

Thanks to all your good advice. Will likely put on a 14 and keep it stock. There is to little wood in the world anyway. I will keep saveing for a M-4.
