So I'm new to hunting/shooting and have just purchased my first rifle. Does anyone know of a good rifle range in the Winnipeg area?

Winnipeg Pistol and Revolver has a good range as long as you're OK with 100 yards, as opposed to the 300 (?) yard Selkirk one. Close to the city as well if that matters.

Thanks for the answers. I'm not the original poster, but had basically the same question. On a related note, any ideas on what's allowed shooting-wise in the surrounding areas? I'm in Oakbank, RM of Springfield, so Springfield in particular would be of interest. Some family nearby has rural property, you see. :)

I'm not sure if the RM of Springfield has its own restrictions, as many of the RM's do. Best to call the RM and ask about by-law enforcement to make sure you can shoot, and shoot what you want, on your own (relative's) land. There may be public lands in your area. Someone talked about some pits East of the City of Winnipeg.

Yeah, good idea thanks. I'll probably ask one of the local Mounties; I'm at least familiar to some, as a casual with local EMS. We go to all the same accidents...

Just heard last week that Beausejour game and fish is about to put a range up this year sometime. Cant wait... so much closer to home.

Yup they said both non-resricted and restricted. I know the rifle range is going to be 300 yards and the pistol length I'm not sure.

Sweet! Yeah, I'd make use of that. I expect to check out Selkirk soon too, but won't complain about more options. With a place as broad and flat as this, we shouldn't be lacking places to shoot.

What ranges allow guests? I'm interested in a range membership but I have no use for a range that doesn't let me bring guests.

There was a small range 1/2 way between Wpg and Stonewall off Hwy 7. The guys who owned / ran it was named Larry and was about 1 million and 6 years old when I was last there in 1996. Not alot of mention of that range, I'm guessing it is no more..or is it? Anybody know for sure?

So other than an actual range, does anyone know of any good spots around winnipeg (within a half hour to 45 mins.) that I can just go and set up targets? Old quarries or something? Not sure if that is even legal, but am curious.
