There was a small imperfection in front of the front crossbolt, looked like a bit of wood chipped out of it when they counter bored for the crossbolt itself. They cheaped out and used filler to get it to flush and then varnished the stock as per usual. I noted the imperfection to the guy at Russel's when I went to buy it and told him I'd be back when the stock blew up. He said there was no way it would do that. Shaa, okay buddy....
There are two cross bolts in the stock, the crack went an inch and a half forward of the front cross bolt (go figure right where the filler was added), and all the way back through the rear cross bolt on to the wrist. The left side of the stock was cracked as well, not quite so bad but the action wouldn't sit straight any more.
They use the same stock on the 458 as well. You will find a relieved section in the forend of the stock for a solder on barrel lug for the larger caliber rifle.
They didn't use a barrel lug on mine, it just had an empty channel there which you could use to beef it up. The action was glass bedded from the factory. I would say as long as the stock look sound it shouldn't be a problem but don't take it as Gospel.
On a side note, I still have the Leupold QR bases and rings should you need a set. My rifle had a rare .330" hole spacing for the rear base so you'd have to measure your new toy first.
