Anyone ever had one of these or handled one in person? I've had this 375H&H itch for some time and I think it needs a scratch. Let me know what your impressions of these fine looking firearms are.
Thanks
Simon

I bought one in '96 but it was called a Super Express, not sure if it is the same one as you mean. They feed like greased lightning and shoot pretty good too, especially with the heavy 300gr pills. If I recall, mine was 8 1/2 lbs empty and unscoped so it isn't too bad to haul around that way, it will push 10lbs once loaded and scoped. The trigger is adjustable but still a bit springy.
Iron sights work well with the comb hieght, for me anyway. The length of pull could have been a bit longer as I got kissed by my thumb in the beak quite often. The stock on mine split big time and it took over eight months to get a warranty stock from WW of which was damaged anyway from the plant. That abruptly ended my love for the Winchester firm.

Here is my wife touching one off.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info noel. If I get one i am planning on cutting it back to 21 inches so that should bring the weight down a little bit. Where abouts did your stock split? could it have been prevented by inletting or bedding? If i get one ill make sure to get my smith to take a look for any pressure points in the stock when he chops the barrel.

There was a small imperfection in front of the front crossbolt, looked like a bit of wood chipped out of it when they counter bored for the crossbolt itself. They cheaped out and used filler to get it to flush and then varnished the stock as per usual. I noted the imperfection to the guy at Russel's when I went to buy it and told him I'd be back when the stock blew up. He said there was no way it would do that. Shaa, okay buddy....
There are two cross bolts in the stock, the crack went an inch and a half forward of the front cross bolt (go figure right where the filler was added), and all the way back through the rear cross bolt on to the wrist. The left side of the stock was cracked as well, not quite so bad but the action wouldn't sit straight any more.

They use the same stock on the 458 as well. You will find a relieved section in the forend of the stock for a solder on barrel lug for the larger caliber rifle.
They didn't use a barrel lug on mine, it just had an empty channel there which you could use to beef it up. The action was glass bedded from the factory. I would say as long as the stock look sound it shouldn't be a problem but don't take it as Gospel.

On a side note, I still have the Leupold QR bases and rings should you need a set. My rifle had a rare .330" hole spacing for the rear base so you'd have to measure your new toy first.
