Winter Shotgun Match??????Indoors?????AWESOME!!!!!

Pfff. Rimfire.
That is so last week.
Been there, done that.

Its now all about the overbore.
I'm bringing a 10 gauge to the match.

Too bad its an ipsc only match, would love to shoot this one

IPSC should really think about changing their safety course to be a one day, $100 event.

Three days and $300 for a mandatory safety course keeps a lot of people away from IPSC sanctioned matches.

There are going to be a number of IPSC Shotgun Matches pop up this year....some shooters have decided to attend the IPSC Shotgun World Shoot in Italy (some of those people need practice).
Maybe this is the year for some to invest in the BB Course! (Although, I am NOT a proponent of the BB Course, and think it should be scraped in its entirety, but this is probably a discussion for a different thread)

Come over to the dark side RunningFool! :dancingbanana:

Never! I don't care if you ARE my father! ;)

Seriously though, and I ask this not as a slight or a complaint against this match but because I really know nothing about IPSC, what are the advantages to holding an IPSC SG match vs just a regular one where everyone can participate?

Great that you should ask!

One thing that kind of sticks in my craw, so to speak, are arbitrary rules at outlaw matches. RO's, Match Directors, match organizers, left to their own devices will make up all kinds of rules, starting positions, conditions etc., on how a stage should be shot, contrary to what is written on a stage briefing.

IMHO, all stages "should" be able to be shot Freestyle, allowing the shooter to solve a problem/stage, how ever they choose.

Many Outlaw matches, are designed to be shot in only one specific way....."BORING".
Many Outlaw matches allow for arbitrary decisions to be made by RO's...."BOOOOOO"

IPSC has a very defined set of rules that does not allow this type of behavior!

Hmmmm. I'm intrigued. Having no knowledge of IPSC shotgun rules or stages, at first glance the notion of having a "very defined set of rules" and the ability for stages "to be shot freestyle" seems incongruent but obviously not! Will have to learn more.

edited to add: In light of your thinking the bb program should be scrapped, why not just have an outlaw match that follows rules which prevent the behaviour you don't like? I guess I'm just wondering what advantage it would be to the match director or the shooters to making it an IPSC match. Do shooters accumulate points of some sort that help with their standings? Does IPSC provide you with materials or support as a match director?
