So, RTCommando and I thought we'd like to do a bit of shooting today, since it had been over 2 months since we were last out.... The cold weather and snow can be a bit of a deterrent to getting outside these months.
Despite the -15 degree temperature (actually, that was warmer than I thought it would be - it was -20C when I woke up today) we decided to trudge out to one of our shooting spots off in the woods.
We wore snowshoes, but we were still sinking up to our mid thighs.
This is a shot of part of our trek into the woods:
We didn't go much further before we decided to set up "shop", given the difficulty of breaking trail...
So, we set down our table (yes, we brought a folding table with us....) and it promptly sank through the snow until it was resting on the table top... so much for the idea of "benchrest shooting".
(Blurred RT's face, just in case he owes someone money
)
We were using our Bubba'd SKSs.... Personally, I like his folding, tan stock better than my fixed black one. Looks cooler.
We both have the BC Tactical scope mounts (great product, I'd recommend them) and Bushnell TRS-25 red dots.
Using surplus Sellier and Bellot ammo.
Got a little cold on the fingers when the gloves were off.
A hundred rounds later (should have brought more, given the trouble it was to get in there!) and several destroyed, frozen apples downrange, and RT's new TRS-25 was sighted in.
Then, the walk back out, carrying the table.... but with the path already packed down a bit, it wasn't too bad.
Now, just waiting for the Spring thaw, so that I can get my Tikka back out and start using it again! I don't like to take it out in snow this deep, it's too nice to risk dropping or getting packed full of snow.
Cheers,
Trav
