Tonight I’m busy cleaning a Savage 243 that has seen about 50 rounds of Barnes TTSX since it’s last scrub. I’m using Wipeout and it seems like there’s no end to the blue patches coming out of the muzzle.

For all you guys that use Wipe-out patch-out, what is your method? Is it safe to soak the barrel over night? The ammonia smell has me worried about the possibility of etching the bore. Am I worried about nothing?

I usually get the bore nice and wet with a few soaked patch and let it sit 5-10 mins. A few cycles usually does the trick. Remember that if you’re using a brass jag it can also give you blue patches.

Yes you can leave wipeout overnight but I think wipe out accelerator you have to clean it out after a short while it is hygroscopic. I leave wipeout overnight lots and it doesn’t do any harm. I use patch out too it’s nice not to have to deal with the foam

On stubborn barrels I leave wipeout in overnight. I have bought some very old, well used guns and have had to leave it in over night, clean in the morning, then leave it in overnight again, doing this up to three times! It will eventually remove all powder and fouling though.

I try not to remove too much jacket fouling from the bore. I use a few wet/dry patches of Carb-Out prior to a wet patch of Accelerator. Then I push a wet patch of PatchOut down the bore. 30 minutes later I dry patch it out. I use PatchOut every 200 rounds +/-

Pay attention to the names of the products mentioned!! You say you are using something called WipeOut PatchOut. Not familiar with that. The stuff I use says "Wipe-Out" then "Brushess Bore Cleaner". Spray into bore - it foams up like shaving cream. Instructions on can say "it should set in the firearm for 60 minutes" A little later , in capital letters, "DO NOT BRUSH". Further on, "Wipe-Out is active for 24 to 48 hours and may be left in the firearm without harm". But, if you have the can, you can also read what it says, so no sense in me wasting any more of your time...

Any chance you are getting "blue" from your brass jag or brush? Use an aluminum jag on a patch and you don't get false readings such as blue patches from the jag or brush.
Solid copper bullets such as Barnes makes are harder to get the bore clean with any copper solvent. Wipe Out works well, I have left it inside the barrels of some of my match rifles for 24 hours to get back down to bare steel with no problems of etching.

WipeOut patch out is a liquid version of WipeOut.

Have not found Wipe-Out Patch-Out instructions to read, but from MidWayUSA website, has this "No bore brush is required when using this solvent. Simply spray into the barrel, wait and then wipe out with a patch"

When i use patch out on a super bad bore i will patch it with a wet patch, wait 20 mins and patch again. If the next patch comes out blue, i will repeat maybe 10 times.. If still blue i will let it sit over night after running a wet patch through it.

If the patches come out blue, it is still has copper in it.

I have a 270 that took over a week of this routine before it was clean.

It was definitely copper from the barrel. After posting this last night I let the barrel soak overnight and this morning it only took a few more applications to finally get it clean.

This gun shoots these TTSX into 3/4” when the barrel is clean, I noticed at 50 rounds the groups really start to open up.

Gee, thanks.

"where do you guys buy this wipeout patch out stuff?"

xreload usually carries it

as mentioned above i use carb out first and then accelerator with patch out

I just cleaned a savage for a friend and it took forever to get the copper out. I think many factory barrels are super rough. I had a ruger that was the same and it was almost impossible to get that barrel clean. You just need to clean it out of the rifling and not try and get it out of all the scratches on a rough bore.

Yes it says that but it doesn’t work like that

FarmerDanz - post #10 - " I have a 270 that took over a week of this routine before it was clean. " If your bore is that bad, maybe the patch-out has 'gone bad' like the ammonia has evaporated ?? I used some Hoppes Copper cleaner on a used 308 I bought this Fall and 'filled the bore' and let it soak over 24 hours. The barrel came out totally clean, no brushing needed. After each range day I just use a bit on 2-3 patches, running back and forth a few times before changing to a new one. I haven't used other copper-cleaners, CanTire and BassPro don't carry any around here in the Maritimes. Not much of a selection of any cleaners, parts etc. Cabelas in Moncton closed in 2017 and the Halifax C- is just a 'small Bass-Pro. Like we're in a 3-rd world :(

Chemical of the week for me is JB bore paste.

Wipe outs works very well but doesn’t cut carbon as good.
