I have been using Wipeout exclusively and even after soaking overnight, when I patch the bore, there is a black "film" that shows on the patches. Is this carbon deposits? I would have thought Wipeout would remove it as well as copper.

I think you'd have to clean the bore for days with all sorts of solvent to get rid of any trace of black carbon on a wet patch

Wipeout does not work well against carbon in my experience. The wipeout patchout is better than the foam though.
I recently bought some gm combustion chamber cleaner, does that stuff ever rip the carbon out. I find that a brush is still necessary though.

Wipeout is and has been my main cleaner for a long time, but a recent acquisition has me scratching my head. For reasons unknown to me it will not remove the copper fouling, even after soaking the bore for 24 hrs.
Butch's Bore Shine seems to be working better, however I'm still not satisfied so maybe its time for JB's Bore Paste.....

I find that I use it pull some patchs use a brass brush to get the stuborn stuff out then apply it agian works really well..

Tried ammonia yet? Works very well on copper fouling.

What is UBC? I read on 6mmbr that they recommend cleaning the carbon out first, then using Wipeout for copper removal. Hoppes Elite is mentioned for carbon.

UBC is Ultra Bore Coatings. I've used it as well after the barrel is cleaned spotless.

The UBC helped with the crazy copper fouling I used to have with my 7mm RUM.

You can also check out gun juice which I've used as well. It's kind of like UBC.

I've had good luck with both.

Hoppes Elite or MPro7 are both good at removing carbon.

UBC is an amazing product. It's essentially a hard ceramic coating that lasts the lifetime of the barrel, and prevents fouling from sticking to the bore. I can shoot several hundred rounds from my rifles before cleaning. When I do clean, I run about 4-5 patches down the bore with Butch's, and she's good to go. If I let it go for too long without cleaning, I might give the bore a squirt of Wipeout and send a patch down the bore. My cleaning equipment sits around collecting dust ever since I started using UBC in my bores.
