WK180-C range review. Update Post #2

So pretty much zero options for a factory built aftermarket barrel unless you have an op rod custom made.

On the + side to that a custom barrel cut from a match blank while costing you $500 will allow you to address the gassing and tune the rifle perfectly if you have access to a quality drill set with very small increments between bits. This is how I tuned my NR ACR 300BLK barrel, I had my barrel maker/machinist drill a tiny hole then tested and used my drill press to open it up a little at a time till it cycled my supersonic and subsonic loads perfectly.

I'm in the process of making up a prototype barrel with exactly that - 18.6" / carbine gas system... I'll post more once I've been able to test it on the WK 180. A .300 Blackout conversion would be excellent as well!

Everyone keeps raving about 300blk so I did some research and was considering doing a conversion, but can't find any cheap bullets for reloading...

I'm not really sure what you mean, it's not going to say 300BLK bullets in the desctiption. You can load any .308 bullet from 110gr to 220gr and if you just want cheap buy these https://www.budgetshootersupply.ca/product/campro-30cal-308-147gr-fmjbt-bullet-500box/ and buy some Lil'Gun or A1680 then contact me and I'll give you a starting point for powder charge if you don't have a book with current data. My McGowan 300BLK barrel will shoot about .9moa from my ACR with 155gr A-max and either of those powders.

Ahhh nice. Yea I was having trouble finding 110gr and it sounded like the max poeple did was 150. I'll probably wait a bit if I do the conversion but that is good to know.

I doubt its even close to as bad as you described lol

I shot the production version of the 180 C at wolverine days back in June. Its a completely typical milspec AR trigger. Had no issues with it whatsoever. I have always been impressed with high end after market triggers when shooting them on other guys set ups, but I have never been so disappointed with a standard factory trigger as to actually want to replace it. I expect the same will be the case of MY 180 when I get it. To each their own.

Agreed, as with most milspec triggers they get better and better the more rounds downrange. After about 1000 rounds it will be smooth and consistent even if it is a little heavy. These are not target rifles and don't need a $400 trigger to get the accuracy potential out of the rifle. Just like any other rifle you can shoot very nice groups with a crappy trigger as long as you are consistent in your shooting and as long as the barrel and ammo combination is capable.

I know that even that DD trigger I complained about in an earlier post would have smoothed out eventually and been just fine but I grabbed an ALG ACT back when they were $77 (should have bought three or four for that price) which was too cheap to walk away from. Great trigger for the $110 or whatever they are today. Budget upgrades slip through my cheap side some days :p

I shoot 110gr V-max and 155gr A-max mostly but have 147gr tracer and pretty much any other weight of projectile to load in my rifles. The one place most people stumble with the 300BLK is they don't realize that you can't just use any powder you have/want if you expect it to cycle in a semi auto. I use H110 for my 110-140gr loads, Lil'Gun and A1680 for supersonic loads from 130gr-168gr, and A1680 for subsonic 208gr loads. I also have a bolt action 300BLK and I have a nice subsonic load using 150gr FMJ and Trailboss but it won't cycle a semi.
There are some other powders that can be used with 300BLK but you can't just use Varget or other rifle powders just because you have 10 pounds of it.
People also need to realize that this is not just a miniature 308win, there is significantly less velocity so just like 6.5 Grendel and other big bullet little case cartridges if you're going to use it for hunting bullet selection and reducing your distances is key to a clean and humane kill on deer and I wouldn't use it at all on anything larger than a deer unless it was less than 50 yards away. It just doesn't have the energy needed for big game at longer ranges.
