Ok guys, I just visited Cabelas and had a chance to handle WK180 from Kodiak.
https://www.cabelas.ca/product/143216/kodiak-defence-wk180-c-semi-automatic-rifle
I dont know how it shoots, but it is pretty wobbly-the upper and lower rattle and worse-the upper rail has an obvious Aluminum alloy welding seam, which is visible to the eye and one can feel it with the finger.... I hope that will not crack
Also, the pistol grip was extremely tiny for my hand.
Otherwise, shouldering was quite comfy, but it was heavier than ARs I have, somehow.
The charging handle on the side-is much better than crazy position in ARs.
M10x, for the same price, provided a much sturdier impression, well, at elast before shooting. Hopefully WK180 shoots batter and charging handles don't fly away.

Not sure if it really costs that crazy money..I am even more on the fence whether I want to buy it or now

If you are considering a Kodiak built 180 I would hold off for a while. There is a gen 2 coming out very soon that has some improvements over the current model.

An Aluminum welding seam? Can you post pictures of that specifically?

how? It is a display from cabelas. not coming back to cabelas for a while... next time-if it is still there

that's very useful

The upper is CNC machined from a single block of aluminum, no welding involved.
maybe, but the quality of the machining of that one I saw in cabelas, was not the best. maybe some sort of specific mishap related to that display rifle. that defect was on one side of the rail only, so, maybe u r right. who knows. anyhow, I'd never buy this for even 900$ maybe 750.

I'm with you

As much as I like the AR platform these 180s felt like crap. I'd pay $750 max for those chonky wobbly rifles.

The gen 2 looks a lot better but I'm still leery on it.

totally, my Smithg and Wesson MP15 sport-I bought it like 10 yrs ago for 699 I think, even I am not a fan of AR15 engeneering design-this one was very cheap and very light and very well made, not wobbly, reliable.... a good built overall. this was my forst ar... i hope if wk180 is well built i may actually buy it too, coz I like side charging handle a lot! and of course a monolite upper rail-this cannot be bitten and ar platforms definitely buys my attention for that
any date kodiak release re: release of the 2nd gen?

The machining is indeed not the best quality. Kodiak's standards aren't set very high and the factory won't improve quality unless Kodiak directs them to, which it appears they aren't interested in. It's pretty sad because an extra 5-10 minutes of machine time would really help the quality and alleviate a lot of customers' complaints about poor machining, and wouldn't hurt the production time none, considering how much downtime that particular machine has per day. But hey, what do I know? I'm just someone who actually cares about the end product, unlike the factory or Kodiak.
