So it's finally here!

I was able to get my mitts on a WK180C and have put 500 rounds down range with it.

So what is it? Basically it's the WK180C lower with a 7.62x39 upper. Nothing more or less. So you take your 5.56 upper off and put a 7.62x39 upper on with no other changes.

It takes 7.62x39 AR15 magazines. 10 round pistol mags exist already and Cross Mags have said they are releasing a 10+10 magazine in 7.62x39 in Autumn.

Reliability was excellent, however with surplus ammunition hard primers may not play nicely with all the different types of triggers that can be put in the WK180C series of rifles.

With the standard WK trigger I had zero problems with any type of ammo.

However I found with one lower using a 2kg trigger that 50% of shots with Chinese surplus had light primer strikes, but all new manufactured ammo had no issues.

Accuracy was exactly what I wanted. 3MOA with Chinese surplus, PPU 123gr SP and Barnaul 125gr SP. I was making hits on steel out to 400m with no problems at all.

Corrosive ammo? Who cares most of the gun is Aluminum, I just took the gas parts out wiped them clean and put boiling water over them and poured some down the barrel to. That's all that's needed.

So get out there and get one! They're a hell of a lot of fun!!!

OK - I just have to ask.
Are you employed by Kodiak? Invested in the company?
Related to any of the Owners or employees?

I don't understand what you wrote, The WK-180 or MCR comes with a 7.62x39 upper if you want its just a 180 chambered in 7.62x39 instead of 223 or you can have uppers with both and even 9mm or 300 blackout its all interchangeable like an AR-15

The WK-181C is a AK magazine compatible lower ! What you wrote hurt my brain and now i'm sad

I am not employed by Kodiak, or any member of the firearms/sporting/etc. Industry.

I have no financial ties to them.

I am not related to anyone with financial or employment ties to them.

What I am is very interested in the platform and the company. It's a relatively new thing. If the G36 came out today and was made by Canadians at $1300 a pop I'd be raving about it. But I think the G36 has quite enough coverage as is.

I've never said anything negative about it's competitors beyond that which I have experienced first hand.

In my last comment I recommended the WS-MCR over the WK.

You routinely share opposing views to mine, this is good and I never ask if you are employed by a competitor or go on to your threads and ask such things.

Feel free to PM me any Qs about me you have

Apologies my bad! I'll re-write the title

I do wish they had a ak mag lower tho :) one day maybe seeing how more companies are releasing components. I think Canada is going to be the 180 leader of the world soon lol

SBI confirmed they will not be doing an AK mag lower for the WK/MCR or for their upcoming DI 180. Same reason as Kodiak and Wolverine/Spectre; as long as :knocks on wood: XCR Pistol mags are still available, it makes more sense keep making STANAG lowers.

I got rid of my WK180C in .223. Even my Type 97 has been much more reliable than that thing. I'm not willing to give the 7.62x39 version a chance. Sorry.

My WK180 is 100% reliable. Is it a QA thing or some other reason why some people have reported terrible reliability and others like me have 100% reliability? Not doubting the frustration many of you are having. I just don't understand why I am not having any issues.

Cheers

Because Kodiak and Spectre make guns according to the old NEA/BCL model.

Some work, some don't. Period.

Ah QA. That's what NEA/BCL is infamous for. I must have just lucked out. If I had read much about it before buying I might have not got it. It was an impulse buy at the LGS.

Maybe it has to do with the amount of time you spend shooting it? I shot mine like crazy, and it was problem after problem. A friend also has one, and shoots it maybe 10% of the amount of time I've shot mine, and he hasn't had any issues. YET.

Well that is a possibility. I have about 750 rounds through it now. 55gr UMC ball, 55gr AE ball, 62gr M855, and 60gr Nosler reloads I made. Shoots MOA or better with the last two. I have put the external bolt catch on it as well as a Trigger Tech trigger and Spectre XL cocking handle, but only a 3x Vortex Spitfire prism sight. I am weary now of component failure. While approaching 1000 rounds I am nervous now.

I'm the second owner on mine and so far it's been dead reliable with 4 different types of mags and every factory brass or steel load I've put through it, my reloads have been good to except for one bad primer. Mine shoots between .75 MOA and 2.5 MOA depending on Ammo. I love the trigger, short, clean break and a very tactile reset. I've got the extended fore end, external bolt catch, improved bolt handle and the brass deflector.

Careful now, someone will come along and ask if you work for Kodiak if you keep on saying positive things like that

Are we ever getting these?... I don't care about XCR mags, they're ugly. I want these because they look cool, i don't care about a paltry 5 more rounds.

I doubt it, there's just no point building another receiver just to allow for the use of AK mags. Why bother having a whole new production line just to meet a single magazine and in doing so prevent yourself from being able to put 5.56 uppers on that receiver?

It's also not a "paltry" quantity. Needing 3x$30 10 round mags to shoot 30 rounds is $90 cheaper and a lot quicker than 6x$30 5 round mags. A lot of us shoot in competition and it helps quite a lot. Plus only shooting 5 rounds kinda sucks.
