My son and I have a cow tag for WMU 3 in Ontario, for bow. Our evil and intricate plan is to take our canvas wall tent, drive like 25 hours to WMU 3, set up camp somewhere, and stick a hole in a moose with an arrow.

Seems like my plan could use some fleshing out on the details. Any advice on how my son could actually end up bagging a cow moose up there? Locations? Techniques? Stuff we need to know to do this? We're novice hunters, and have never been within 20 hours of the place.

dress warm, have spare close, i wouldnt try calling, look for cover close to lakes and swamps, bring at least couple more friends to help;) like any other game scent control and movement are big issius

beginers and hunting with bow? good luck

We're beginners hunting with bows, but we're going far enough north in an effort to improve our odds. Apparently the moose are just walking around outside all over the place up there. I dunno. AS you know, even just some regular sightings is pretty exciting too. Was curious about specific spots to camp/hunt, and hunting techniques. I'm expecting to just tuck in under some trees like we do turkey hunting, but maybe we'd be better off in tree stands? And not calling - I've read varying info on success with cows.

i see :)
furthest north ive been is border of 18A and 17, i can tell you this; dont camp on top of the hills or your tent will end up a kite, its good to find a spot protected from wind cause its a whole different enviro over there, but still its fricking beautiful

I wouldn't want to burst your bubble but if you are going up there thinking you'll trip on moose cause there are so many you will be greatly disappointed.
Cow, bow hunting will be a challenge its not like a bull on rut. you will have to be at the right place at the right time. Also make sure All you paperwork is up to date because i have seen more CO there than in any other zone i hunted in.Depending where and when you go make sure to have deer tags. Anyhow good luck to you guys and hope you catch one

Just trying to increase the odds that the kid gets a moose. I know we can't call a cow, but not sure if we should be driving around on ATV's, or parking under a bush and having a nap, or looking for a trail and putting up a tree stand, or hunting in swamps, or in the bush, or what. I'm not much on ATV hunting, I'd rather just find a spot and have a nap, but we'll do what we need to do. And I am still optimistic, everyone says we should have multiple sightings daily - after that it's just luck and smell I guess.

Thanks for the CO tip. We're very compliant so shouldn't be an issue.

We hunt in wmu 3. While there are moose around, you wont be tripping over them, and will have to log a lot of miles to see one every day.

Never bow hunted moose, but I'd be inclined to find a spot with a good food source and water nearby, thats where the cows will be...if you can find a narrows between 2 bodies of water, good chance there's a moose trail there. Look for fresh sign, and scout the water near there. Toporama would be a good start...

Getting within 50yds of a cow is the tricky part...
