Over the last 2 yrs. the hunting gods have not been kind to me. Last year, my buddy nailed a nice doe on opening day. I only had a buck tag and never got anything but a little spike horn. In the year before that, we had no doe tag. He nailed a nice 6 pt. buck and again, no rut, no more bucks. Finally I had my chance. A nice buck came into range of my overwatch and presented me with a perfect opportunity for broadside shot. I put one round, through-and through as it turns out, in the heart. He did a stumbling run and collapsed about 30 ft. on, stone dead. Sadly, we were still left with an unfilled doe tag, but I may get up there for one last chance with a crossbow. I hope my fellow hunters were equally fortunate.
