Wolf 7.62x39 154 gr SP Ammo

I've shot 3 deer.... one a 240lbs plus b.c. mule deer, one shot kills at 50 ish yards. Using federal 123gr soft points. where do you get these 154 gr rounds?? I wonder what the performance is at 100 yards..... Hmmmm i think i need to try some of this stuff .... more info please ;)

154 grain is a heavy bullet in this cartridge .
Bullet constuction and shot placement are more important than bullet weight .
Many a greater animal fall to same weight or lighter every year .
Plus getting a heavier bullet in .311 would take you up to .303 weights , you'd have a hard time finding somewhere for the powder to go and even if you did it would put a beating on your rifle I'm thinking .
But YMMV
I would like to try some of this stuff , can you get it in Canada and where ?

I bought around 200rds of it from proline shooters in Calgary a couple of years ago. I haven't gotten around to shooting it because the federal blue box ammo shoots great in the ruger mkII and also works great on deer.

ok....there's alot of wonder about this ammo so I am going to take the plunge.

I'm going to pick some up and check it out myself. I'll post the details.....but I don't think it wll be anytime soon. Maybe mid January or so.

Thanks again

I had trouble using this stuff in a Mini-30. I would get a misfine every third or forth round. I think they use extra hard primers to compensate for the lack of a fireing pin return sprin in SKS's etc.

My bold, I agree 100% I handload for large deer with this bullet here in the UK, woodland engagement ranges though. I use 125 grain soft points and it does the business both in my .303 and my 7.62x39 CZ527!

A 123 gn SP out of any 7.62x39 gun within reasonable range will kill any deer on the Earth. I'd leave the 150gn bullet for something bigger.

I agree wholeheartedly....but I would like to see if it would be better shooting this thru tag alders <sp> and shrubbery.

I'll keep an eye out for it but it might not be legal here and so few of us use that calibre that handloading is easier!
