Hey fellas i got a good one for you, I know alot of you will call bullsh*t on this story but it all happened and i even have two witnesses. This past sunday me and my hunting buddy went for a bird hunt and on the way we always stop in this spot where wolves tend to hang out, my passenger side window was still frosted up so when we we drove up the road and ritchie said there was a wolf i didn't see it right away. i quickly drove up to the turnaround and saw a black wolf bounding away in the waist deep snow and i could tell he was having a hard time so i figured i'd get a shot off. I jumped out and grabbed the 300wsm from the back seat, loaded a clip, rested on the side mirror and got the scope on him running away at about 300 yrds, (remember i have a witness that will testify the distance
she broke off to the left and just as her nose hit the crosshairs i pulled the trigger and she dissappeared.
I got back on the truck and told ritchie that i hit that wolf, he just laughed, a 300+yrd shot on a running wolf....not a chance he said. The shot felt good, most times i know when a miss and humor my self by going and looking for blood but i was right on her when i pulled and couldn't convince myself that i missed. The snow was waist deep and i had a 300yd walk if i wanted to go look so i decided to continue the bird hunt then head home to get some snow shoes and return. Almost as soon as i got home a buddy of mine called me to help him set some wolf snares in that same spot....perfect. we got there and buzzed across the field with the snowmobile and there she lay just inside the willows on the edge, didn't make it 15 yards. I hit a bit back but the 200 grain partition did the trick. not as big as the first one i got (approx 125) but much better fur, going to make a pair of mitts. Well there goes my two wolf tags, not a bad year so far, moose, 2 wolves and still have 2 caribou tags (season ends in April 30) and a spring bear hunt. hope you enjoyed.
