Wolf Hunting In NorthEastern Ontario

I want to try hunting wolf this year. I have a rifle and a location where there is plenty of wolf signs. Just need advice to get one in my sights, any info would be appreciated! Thanks and happy hunting !

You have your work cut out for you. Wolves are crafty creatures. Start doing lots of reading.

Get a predator call. Imitates a rabbit squealing in distress.

I use fawn in distress calls. Shoot straight. They're tough animals. Take higher ground. Call from the ground and sit still. Watch every entrance point. They come in like ghosts and dissappear faster than a $20 bill at the titty bar.

The wolves or coyotes do not read the same material as we do so they do not necessarily follow the game plan. They see movement I swear better than deer. So do your best imitation of a rock. Like mentioned above they can appear out of no where and disappear into thin air even quicker. Often you get busted and never even know it until you see tracks on the way out to the truck. They educate themselves very quickly and have excellent memories, so if they have busted other hunters or been shot previously at other sets they will be most difficult to fool. Lots of fun trying though so good luck.

They are very crafty to get close to, they have super eyesight and smell. I wouldn't be surprised if you have to set up a couple hundred yards away at least to get a shot.

Not all are very concerned with us, I followed one on a logging road for a while a few years back, could not get within 200 yards of it but it would not spook, when I played my caller it responded to the call and another came out. It was a great time. Where my Father was logging last winter he was seeing lots, just happened to be lots of moose around and they were not scared of anyone, talk to some guys working in the cutovers or hauling logs and you can get a lead on some good areas.
