wolf tracks

Sure is dragging his feet for the amount of snow, looks like easy going...Either real fat and lazy...Bad... Or weak with hunger...Good!

Snow has a hard crust on it here and those killing Bastages are sure taking advantage...Unzipped a coyote just this morning on what was left over from a wolf kill last night, not more then 120 yards from where I sit and peck in the farm house...Spring better hurry up and get here for the sake of the few whitetail that are left.

Now, This is a wolf track. :)

No shortage of wolf tracks. Would be happy to see the odd one here and there......instead, packed down areas everywhere

Pemberton BC. Large pack of 7-8, and it had one "Mongo" wolf in it. My friend's hand is 6.5" from middle fingertip to wrist crease, and her hand fit inside this track on hard packed cold ice with 1/2" of snow.

There are some big ones out there... 7mm RM OAL is +3.3"

Edit - I should add that had I placed a .264 WM round beside the track the wolf would have died. :)

You guys would be blown away how small of a dog can have giant feet, wolves have evolved large feet for all the snow and boreal travelling. One of the bigger surprises I've had in hunting is walking up to the wolf at the end of the giant tracks I've followed to find an 80lb animal. They get a lot bigger too, but often aren't the giants their outlandishly sized feet will lead you to believe. I'm seeing all sorts of wolf tracks on top to the crust, chasing Bison and Caribou tracks that are busting through the crust, there's a massacre going on this spring up here due to snow conditions again.

While 80lbs isn't huge, it isn't small either. Contrary to popular belief 120 - 130lbs is a big wolf. On the other hand we did end up seeing those wolves - they were big.

This is true. I'm always amazed at the pics of wolves that people say "230 pound wolf caught in Idaho!" etc. A big wolf is 100 pounds ....a really big wolf is 130. a REALLY big wolf is 160. If wolves were over 200 pounds, they'd break through the snow and not catch anything all winter.

Top story here, (Click 3rd pic down) this wolf is filling the truck bed and weighs 100 lbs. There's some on Wolftracker that look massive and are 135.
