Ive had my PAL & RPAL for over a year now, and this past year has been dominated by people everywhere calling for handgun bans. Is this a recent thing? or has there always been this much pressure regarding the issue?

Maybe im just getting paranoid, and hesitant to buy new handguns if there is a chance theyll be taken away (and before you all jump on me, and tell me to buy MORE guns in response...dont worry, it has not curbed my buying sprees yet!! and i plan on getting a Titanium Gold DE within the next 6-8 months...and have already bought 8 guns in this year alone)

im just wondering if this battle has been going on forever, and will continue to go on forever, and if I should be worried.

Chris

I am wondering the same thin myself. I think what is new, is that Parties like Green and Liberals are making gun bans part of their official platform. This has never been done before. I'm going to buy all I can now. But I have to wait for my range to get cert for handguns first. I would like to add to this question, can I buy a handgun now and get it registered so I'm covered if they are banned before I get an ATT (even if I don't have possession). Or do I have to wait for OSGC to get hangun range and ATT application process setup and safety course first?

Gun ban ideas come and go ... Some of them stick (C-17, C-68, and the one in '78 that banned the F/A's, can't remember the name off the top of my head), most of them end up going the way of the dodo though.

Just be sure and join the CSSA, we need all the members we can get. I'll admit I haven't done a whole lot yet, but I've signed up for the family membership to help protect my rights. The bigger we are as a group, the more likely politicians are to listen.

As soon as that A#@Hole miller started really whining for a ban, thats when I decided to go and get my RPAL.Ive now purchased 3 handguns, with many more to follow. Please dont let these clowns scare you, that would mean that they are winning!!!Once you possess your restricteds, they're yours, dont ever let some socialist power monger tell you otherwise!!!!!

The handgun ban (or firearms ban) comes in cycles. If it is slow in the media, it is a good standby for the media--bad for us.

An example is "wheels falling off of trucks". About 10 years ago, the Ontario media (not sure if it was national), was posting about transports losing tires while driving down the road. almost everyday for 2-3 months, there was a report of a truck losing a tire while going down the highway.

The Ontario government considered making "tire retaining devices" mandatory and stepped up inspections and enforcement. Well, the summer ended and all of a sudden, there were no more incidents of "trucks losing tires" making the news. I'm sure it still happens (as I'm sure it has happened before the media coverage), but the media had better fish to fry.

The handgun ban is trying to make hype (and profit for the media).

We've been fighting this for years. Don't let it get you down, just get one (or more handguns), enjoy your hobby and fight with the rest of us (via the CSSA, NFA and your local/provincial fish and game organization).

The best way to persuade the public is to change it, one person at a time. Get your handgun and take a non-shooter out and turn them into a shooter; then encourage them to get more people to become shooters.

Buy the handguns, join the clubs, go to matches, educate friends and coworkers that nice people own hanguns, and to paraphrase the song 'you got to fight for your right to paaarty ..with guns,"
