As these rifles the SKS's and SVT40's supposedly came from the Ukraine if we will ever see some Russian Surplus Ammo that could/hopefully pass the DFAITs (GESTAPO) specs?

I kinda miss the oblong spam cans we used to get.

Or maybe some yugo stuff

I REALLY wish we could get a steady stream of this stuff .... With billions of rounds floating around, DFAIT is really screwing firearm owners over, and frankly I can't see why ....

I wouldn't count on any former Soviet Republics to send us any ammo UNTIL they join NATO (they want but....).
The whole SKS / SVT bunch IMHO is a Cold War relics previously stored in accordance with plans to arm gorilla bands if NATO strikes as it was with Germans ... huge Partizan movement was created in Ukraine, Belarus....
They just don't feel they need it any more half-way joined with NATO.

Russia still has lots of anything stashed for that particular reason...
BTW 7.62x54 is a current military round, mainly for PK and SVD.
Russian 7.62x39 guns and ammo are "in reserve".

FWIW it isn't DFAIT that is the problem. NRCAN is the approving agency for ammo and explosives. They have recently become very anal about the collection of production information of ammo. With surplus ammo this type of detailed information is rarely available. Even with modern civilian ammo production their collection of information is absurdly detailed. Many manufacturers simply refuse to divulge proprietory manufacturing info. For older ammo, the manufacturer may no longer exist.
