I'm retired, and there are still a few toys I'd like.. Right now I have a taste to buy a Rossi pump .22 ( model 61 ) and I'm finding that guns are not exactly available on every corner (legal that is). What do you do? I mean, how would I go about looking to buy a pump .22 (not an antique Winchester) preferably new?

Thanks Hal.

Request access to the Equipment exchange and post a WTB (Want to buy) add. Probably the best way to find one.

Or call some gun shops and see if they can order one in. There are several at the top of the site. I prefer Prophet River, but i'm bias because i can go down there when i need something...

X2. There are lots of guns tores near and around TO. You can also go to local gun shows. The one in Orangeville is usually pretty good. There was an older Remington pump there for $175 a few weeks ago.Depends on what exactly you are looking for. If nothing else it gets you out of the house for a few hours.
Here is a link with the dates to some that are close . http://www.ontariogunshows.com/

LeBaron will sell me a new Remington 572 for about half my pension cheque,, so that's not in the cards.. I'll just keep looking, thanks for the responses..

Hey Viking~your best bet is probably a Henry if you want new, and are on a budget for a pump. As others have stated, request access to the EE and look around. At the very least, you'll get a good sense of the asking prices on used guns in Canada.

BTW~love your avatar. A critter near and dear to my heart. :)

The Henry pumps run around $500-$550 new... poke around the sponsor sites, someone will have one.

As other's have mentioned, you can get one already broken in off the EE in the $175 - "So you wanna refinance the house for a classic gun" range of pricing.

There's not much you can do. Especially with the Remington starting at a king's ransom price of over $600 new.

So you're stuck with used. If you don't have it already request access to the EE and start watching and perhaps post a WTB requesting a lower cost pump action rifle.

I've got a couple of older Remington Model 12's. The only issue with them is that the 12 is very old and the metals used are not rated for use with modern HV ammo. But they did come out with the Model 121 in the 50's that is good for use with the modern HV stuff. So I'd say watch for a 121. If you end up with an older 12 then stick with Standard Velocity ammo or use even milder subsonic ammo to ensure you don't run into durability issues.

Savage made a couple of pump actions way back as well. The very old Visible Loader would be another which I would only use with SV or subsonic due to the age. They also made a slightly later pump action that I don't know about since I only learned of it a few weeks back.

The Rossi copy of the Winchester is another good option. But it's not a current model. So you're stuck waiting and watching for a used one.

Good luck finding one. They are most certainly worth the wait. If I had to decide on pump vs lever as being the most fun for a rimfire plinker it would be a tough decision.

Your thread starter. Wont break the piggy bank. I have always thought that was a bit of false advertising. Just when the bank gets full, I see something else I need to make me better and have to take the hammer to it. Be it a gun or an accessory. And Ammo, if you are using tennex (see earlier thread) then you may as well not even try to have a piggy bank.

Rimfire is the way to go to get your shoot on. The club fees aside, what I spent on ammo when I was working looked like a bar tab... Now I shoot 10 bucks a week tops, including the 20 rounds of .45 at the end to keep my hand in.. I sometimes look forward to a guest wanting to tag along.. They always want to spring for a box of ammo, so far no one has decided to go for for a PAL... Something about not enough time they always say...
