I've had a shotgun since 16. In 2008 (22 years later) I got my first centrefire - a Remington 700 BDL in .243. When I got it, it was up at a childhood camp and with some help, removed the bolt, lined it up on a target at 50 yds and adjusted the scope turrets to bore site - first shot was a bulls-eye. Coincidently, a woodchuck popped-up in the field at about 100 yds. The guys said to try my luck...and on shot 2, that groundhog was dead. This experience left a lasting impression.
I now have 3 M700s (all BDLs) and have never looked back. Along the way I owned a Tikka Whitetail Hunter M595 in .243 and an A-Bolt Medallion in 300WSM. Both were sold (accurate, but not as accurate) to help fund Remington purchases. I also picked-up two Model 788s and they are shooting as well as the BDLs. All of these are sub-MOA rifles except perhaps my .270 which sits at about 1/2 MOA. All are sited in for 200 yd zero and I regularly reach out to 450 yds for practice. In 2010 I started reloading and experimenting - but that first BDL would shoot sub-MOA with factory ammo.
So, was wondering if anyone else enjoys these old Remingtons. My safe count is 5:
.243 BDL - 1989
.270 BDL - 1983
22-250 BDL - 1990
6mm 788 - 1974
6mm 788 - 1976
Anyone else feel lucky to own these "oldies"?
