I've had a shotgun since 16. In 2008 (22 years later) I got my first centrefire - a Remington 700 BDL in .243. When I got it, it was up at a childhood camp and with some help, removed the bolt, lined it up on a target at 50 yds and adjusted the scope turrets to bore site - first shot was a bulls-eye. Coincidently, a woodchuck popped-up in the field at about 100 yds. The guys said to try my luck...and on shot 2, that groundhog was dead. This experience left a lasting impression.

I now have 3 M700s (all BDLs) and have never looked back. Along the way I owned a Tikka Whitetail Hunter M595 in .243 and an A-Bolt Medallion in 300WSM. Both were sold (accurate, but not as accurate) to help fund Remington purchases. I also picked-up two Model 788s and they are shooting as well as the BDLs. All of these are sub-MOA rifles except perhaps my .270 which sits at about 1/2 MOA. All are sited in for 200 yd zero and I regularly reach out to 450 yds for practice. In 2010 I started reloading and experimenting - but that first BDL would shoot sub-MOA with factory ammo.

So, was wondering if anyone else enjoys these old Remingtons. My safe count is 5:

.243 BDL - 1989
.270 BDL - 1983
22-250 BDL - 1990
6mm 788 - 1974
6mm 788 - 1976

Anyone else feel lucky to own these "oldies"?

I have only one stainless/Synthetic Remington 700, an SSDM in 30-06.

All the rest of my Remmys are Wood/Blued.

I have several 700 "Classics" My favorite configuration.

7x57 [1981]; 257 Rob [1982]; 222 Rem. [1993]; 6.5x55 [1994]; 300 Savage [2003]; 8x57JS [2004].
Also have a CDL in 270, a 40X in 260AI, a 700 BDL Custom in 308 Norma Mag, a 600 rebarrelled in 6mmBR [pencil barrel]
A 700V in 6mm Remington, Another 700 Rebarrelled in 6.5x55AI., etc, etc. Love my 700's!!

Also, on the rimfire end, I have a 40X, a 541S, a 541T sporter, and an M37.

There are other residents in my gunsafe, but my Remingtons are still my go-to rifles in most cases.

Regards, Dave

I love BDL's. Constantly look for one to buy :)

Only hunt with Semi's nowadays, but sure enjoy my BDL's at the range, oh and the 22-250 at the gopher patch!

I have a bdl in .22-250 that's had a trigger job and been glass bedded, it has a B&L 6-24x on top and easily lays 1/2 inch groups if I do my part.

I also have a classic in .35 whelen which I love, and my newest one is a CDL SF in 7mag.

Dads got a bdl in 300 Winchester, and an adl stamped 7mm express which of course is 280 Remington. He also has a 788 in .22-250 that he calls Misty, as she has a habit of turning gophers into a red mist lol.

I love the older bolt remingtons!

Have a 788 in .243. Put a half dozen mulies in the freezer with it. Never took a shot longer than 200 yards with it, and it aimed high, but that was probably my inexperience and anticipating recoil. (shutup, I was a teenager :p )

It's a very flat shooting gun. I enjoy it quite a bit. I have my eye on a 700 on the EE that I plan to pick up if I can as soon as my renewal gets processed and I'm legal. .300 Wby

I've actually never held a 700.

My safe count is unknown as most of my rifles are crated still but I would put the 700s at likely 15-20 and 1/2 doz model 7s...........just a slight modification of the 700 in my opinion. Got most everything from 204 Ruger to 458 WM in 700s

700 SPSS....204 ruger, 300 WM, 300 RUM
700 CDL + CDL SF.....7mm RUM, 260 Rem, 257 Wby, 243 Win, 375 H&H
700 VLSS....22-250, 243 rebarreled to 22-284
700 Classic......257 Bob, 6.5 X 55, 35 Whelen, 375 H&H (need a 300H&H to fill out the line up............ anyone?)
700 Ti .....300 WSM (in a Brown Prec Kevlar stock)
700 of unknown origin....264 WM in Brown Prec glass stock, 6mm-284 fluted barrel in H-S stock, SS 300 Wby with Sako bottom metal in a Brown Prec stock
700 Custom Shop.....458 WM (soon to be 458 Ruger)
Mod 7.....CDL 260, KS 350 RM, MS 350 RM, MS 7-08, old one in 358 Win
And one little mini mauser action Rem (Zastava...can't remember the mod number) in 22 hornet in lam stock.

Gobs of 700 stocks and barrels and a couple actions.......and whatever I'm forgetting till I get them all uncrated and in the rack............

Pops has a BDL in 7mag, they sure look pretty but I don't care much for the BDL stock. I have 2 wood/blued, a classic in 8mmRM and a mountain rifle in 257. Them older blued actions are silky smooth.

700 BDL in .243. It has killed a lot of deer. Just sold a 700 BDL in .338 Win Mag, miss it already. Also 7400 walnut blued in .243 another accurate little gun. Older Remington quality is hard to beat.

Looks like I have 9 with wood, 3 laminates, and the rest with some form of aftermarket synthetic.

IMHO the old 700-V's were the cat's meow in the 700 lineup.
Had a 22-250 that I sold in a moment of stupidity.

I've read here and there that previous owners regretted selling an old Remington once or twice. I'm a lefty so am glad to have found some oldies for sale.

My three 700's all roll-up into the price of a Sako but they are beautiful to look at and extremely accurate - and consistent. I've put a little work into them in terms of free floating, trigger work and bedding recoil lugs, but that was easy and to tell the truth I enjoy tinkering. Then to find that perfect reload...kinda makes the bond that much stronger!

The high gloss BDL finish isn't my favourite as it shows marks, but is tough and I don't think the walnut moves seasonally at all (POI stays constant). I know the original finish on the 788 was "soft" - found out the hard way when some solvent dripped onto the wrist when cleaning...so tinkering brought about a refinish. My other is original...40 years strong.

I'm curious to hear how these rifles shoot stock. In particular if I encountered a 700 CDL in 35 Whelen and could afford it should I expect to get it bedded and a trigger job done before I'd be happy ? How is the stock trigger?

700's

Good day all:
along with a lot of Remington .22's I have a 660 in .243, a 788 in .222 and one of my favorites is my 700bdl enhanced in .222.it has a very nice stick of walnut and shoots handloads into 1/2 ".
The only "plastic" shooter in my house is my wife's ruger Sr9.

I sold off probally 90% of all my rifles over the past 14 years but the few vintage BLD700's I had I kept. There is a 243,280 and 25-06 if I remember correctly.
